That's a bit of a relief. If he can develop those pass rush moves you talk about, this might become an elite DLine down the road. An unstoppable offense and a dominating defense sounds like a good formula to win some games this year.

As 49ers fans' lets not count them out so soon! We can't blame the front office for letting Buckner GO! I seen him improve week by week and that pick 6 was nice! If I recall, Buckner had only 1 fumble return for a td against seattle! Lets give this guy the benefit of the doubt, buckner wasn't lights out from the gates and he shows promise! At least he's not a head case like Foster etc. Anyway, I got my tickets locked in, excited for this year! Lets go, have a good season Kinlaw, and above all lets hope the TEAM stays healthy

Let's not forget, Kinlaw is a better run defender so that ought to close the gap between the 2 of them a little bit.

The big factor is Bosa. He draws double teams and can also help teach Kinlaw new pass rush techniques.

This would be nice for sure. Really want to see Kinlaw make a big leap forward this year

Nah, double-digit sacks for interior DL is an extremely difficult thing. Kinlaw just needs to show that he's getting better(by a lot). ~5 high-quality sacks where he dominates his opponent and a bunch of QB hits and pressures would be a great season for him.
Unfortunately, reading that he had knee issues last season is very disconcerting. This was a known issue about him coming out of the draft. A guy that big that struggles with pad level and has knee issues is a terrible combination.
That may be the reason ShanaLynch went after Hurst. We'll just have to wait and see if Kinlaw's knee becomes a Dee Ford issue or not. I'm confident that they can get a DT in the draft to replace Kinlaw if his knee becomes an issue. They've been pretty good in the later rounds finding guys like Julian Taylor and dj Jones.
I think the bigger issue going forward is the DE pass rusher. Arden Key is unknown in our scheme, and Bosa is comming of a serious knee injury. I hope they will devote some draft capital next year to get better depth and possible talent at the DLine positions. But I like what they did in the offseason with the free agent DLine signings and i think they went that way because of a weak DLine rookie crop.
Maybe I just want to believe that Kinlaw's knee surgery wasn't a big deal, but my take is that Hurst was simply a cheap player with real promise. Definitely agree about the DE rushers. A bit more outside pressure and this IDL group will wreck people.

They signed Hurst because the DL draft class was weak, and we lost a few guys. You need a deep DL for rotations.

Damn, every time i see a pic up Kin, he just looks bigger and bigger and well, stronger. And it is true...not having OTAs, a real TC, and real PS, really hurt young guys like Kin last yr. it was like he was playing college and then last yr he played pro. Of course he will be better with fundamental training, work on technique, etc. Arrows all point up for this guy. One thing he definitely will be to the guy across the LOS from him....intimidating.

Watching his latest interview with the press (on 49ers.com), this guy has Trent Williams size. He's got tree trunks for arms, one of the biggest players I've ever seen. Smacking his gum was painful to listen to but worth it.
