He's already had multiple surgeries but hopefully this one takes.

Kinlaw is still dealing with the knee injury suffered on December 20, 2020, against the Dallas Cowboys. The 49ers had hoped that multiple offseason procedures would have helped get Kinlaw to 100 percent for this season, but the setbacks continued, and the effects of the injury still linger.
Did he have a knee concern going into the draft? I can't remember.

I ain't mad atcha. He did have all the ability in the world to become Chris Jones. But gotdamn these injuries!

Let's just hope the next surgery takes.

I fully understand how a team falls in love with Javon Kinlaw. The dude must be insane to witness in person; a freak amongst freaks. I remember the first time I saw Buckner and Armstead in person and said to myself, "I can't believe I'm the same species as those guys." Kinlaw makes those dudes look normal.

Still, the tape showed someone that was so incredibly raw--so far away that it was going to be awhile for him to reach his ceiling. Drafting Kinlaw--even excluding the knee issues--was a massive gamble.

When he's on the field, he's a solid player. Nobody runs on us when Kinlaw plays. Not as good as Buckner, true. but he's productive when healthy. The problem is, like a lot of our players, he isn't healthy.

Right, but the 49ers drafted Kinlaw in hopes of him becoming a Chris Jones-type player by impacting the game as a pass rusher. This was Chris Jones in week 2 of his Sophomore season--3 sacks, 2 forced fumble, even an int. Chief's fans immediately knew they had a special player. Kinlaw hasn't sniffed a game like this.

Not disagreeing at all. He's no Chris Jones.

Fully agreed then (and now). My original pro personnel take is the DT FA market was so oversaturated and cheap, just buy a few cheap rotations with different skill sets for base and nickel. You don't take a 3T this high unless he's got pass rush skills as his primary skill set.

This was post #5. This guy's smarter than Lynch.

well that's very frustrating then. I mean he was ranked as a top 15 talent in the draft but we need to avoid these guys from now. Him and Foster have killed us with their injuries and high potential. Frank Gore's health recovery from his knee was like 1 in 10,000 it seems.

They keep tempting fate by going in big on guys with existing injury issues. Anyone can get injured in the NFL but frequently injured guys tend to stay injured. Whether its play style, genetics or just pure bad luck, maybe go with guys who were both productive and consistently available.
