I'm not down on him but understand why people are. Sometimes it's out of sight out of mind. Obviously Bosa had a monster rookie season so everyone knew what we had lost last season. His comeback reminded people of that.

Kinlaw's whole thing was he is raw and needed to improve his technique as a pass rusher. We haven't seen or heard from him in months.

I certainly hope he's hitting his rehab similar to Bosa. If he can come back healthy and hopefully the surgery actually gets him back to 100% or close to it I still think Kinlaw can be a great player for us in the middle. His size isn't easy to find. I'd love for him to spend a lot of time with Bosa this offseason if he allows it or hit up Buckner/Armstead as they work in Hawaii.

Really hope we bring back DJ Jones and Key in free agency. I think that DL can certainly grow on how they finished up this season and Kinlaw can help make it even more dangerous.

But would certainly be nice to see how he's progressing.

The problem is people expected him to be Aaron Donald. 99% of DT's aren't piling up 15+ sacks a year. Kinlaw is a good run stuffer who can rush the passer. People just judge everything based off sacks for DL. Armstead has been a fantastic run defender his entire career, but was always called a bust until he started sacking the QB.

The problem is we had holes in other parts of the team that needed to be filled, and this pick didnt do that. It has nothing to do with expecting the 2nd best draft prospect at his position to instantly become Aaron Donald. You are making that up in your head. We had other areas of need and instead of addressing those, we drafted Kinlaw who has given us next to nothing in 2 seasons.

Teams who draft specifically for need tend to keep drafting high.

I'd also point out that after trading Buckner DT was definitely a need. You have the ability to use hindsight which certainly helps but I'll ask you anyways...who would you take in that spot?

I'll admit I wanted Wirfs but we traded down so it is what it is...he was off the board when we picked and the picks we got for the move helped us draft Aiyuk which was also a big need. It's also likely we don't trade for Trent Williams if we draft Wirfs.

Saying Kinlaw has given us next to nothing in 2 seasons is also just flat out wrong. He definitely helped our run defense as a rookie and made an impact here and there as a pass rusher. Obviously this year was a dud since when he played, he played hurt. Still had a key blocked FG on that bum knee.

Like I said before you don't want to see a raw player lose a season early in his career but this is where we are now. Have to hope he comes back healthy. Kinlaw was a highly thought of prospect who impressed people at the senior bowl. His size and skill is a rare find. His future is still bright assuming his health is fine.
Nobody was expecting this dude to be AD. Folks always go overboard when trying to defend their stance. In my opinion they definitely drafted him to say they got Buck's replacement instead of going BPA. They drafted for need and sadly the need is still there. We can say the samething for Banks. He wasn't nowhere near BPA when they drafted him. And what a surprise that position is still a question mark. Both guys need to step up and contribute big time. .

I mean, I guess to each his own but hopefully he's not liking going crazy on estrogen hormonal therapy in his time off.

If Kinlaw can become almost 100% healthy next year, this DLine can be a very dominant DLine. Add in a couple more free agent signings (maybe a Arden Key 2.0 or Ebukam 2.0) and I don't know if you need to invest in the Edge or DLine for 2022. Specially if they can re-sign Arden Key for a reasonable price. I'm hoping Kinlaw can become a super star in the NFL, specially where he was drafted. He'll be needed for depth and talent for a possible 2022 super bowl run.
Hopefully Kinlaw follows the Armstead career path. Basically useless for the first couple years due to injuries and then become a pillar of consistency. If we can get 14 games a year of Kinlaw for the next 3 years our defensive line will be dominate.

that would be ideal. the guy just hasn't had any tangible playing time to get better. AA wasn't hurt this much.

He played 14 games in a 2 year span (16/17). Kinlaw just played 17 in a 2 year span (20/21). Pretty much the same amount.

Yup, AA definitely had the "is this guy ever going to stay health" tag just like Ward too early in his career.
I don't know if we can afford to bring Key back but if Kinlaw is healthy, he could probably replace the inside production.

I doubt it. Kinlaw has never shown any sort of pass rush consistency, and Key was winning at an insanely high rate from inside.

I stand corrected

I just hope Kin doesn't blow up, rehabbing that injury.
Mostly injured a lot. Not sure what to think of him.
