We're still drafting a raw DT with our first pick, right? RIGHT???

Right, DT then C then Safety. I am hoping an edge falls to the first pick that they just can't pass up

DJ Jones is like the perfect body type and athlete for the wide 9. Explosive and athletic enough to work laterally, upfield, and penetrate but also squatty, stout, and difficult to move. They need to find the next DJ Jones.

Agree. I think the new DJ Jones contract was 10 million APY, thats how valuable a penetrating DT is in the NFL nowadays. They are tough to find vs tree stump DTs that are immovable but can't pass rush.

Kocurek can find them like a horse to water, whereas most other teams is like a needle in a haystack. I don't know how this draft compensatory stuff works, but if we get something like a 3rd round comp pick for DJ Jones, and he was a 6th rounder, i'll take that deal all day.

I mean the dude is already pretty lean for an IDL. He'd likely be losing more muscle than fat if he were to cut.

I like him lighter with more twitch. He not a power guy until he can explode into contact.

lol he has six pack abs at 315. I don't think he has a weight problem. Its technique and durability.

Agree. DJ Jones also had injury probelms early in his career. Hopefully Kinlaw can put this injury thing behind him the way DJ Jones did.

Yup. Could be a blessing in disguise that we got that surgery early in his career. He seems like a hardworking, no nonsense kind of guy. I'm sure he is working his ass off and I believe he is in the facility training as well.

Isn't part of his knee problem ahh what's the word? Like severe arthritis or the like? I don't think that gets better. It's sort of set in isn't it?

Its really just been one injury that they botched the surgery on.
"Kinlaw ended up having his surgery," Shanahan told reporters. "They went in there, looked at the stuff. He'll end up going on [injured reserve]. He'll be out this year... There's a lot of things that went into it, that they found and things like that, but I think the good news is they feel they solved the problem."Originally posted by 9erson3:

What's confusing is that Kinlaw declared himself injury-free on Twitter at the beginning of last season, and then had knee surgery. I think Kinlaw may have felt mostly fine, but obviously had something going on with his knee, and when it was more closely inspected, the doctors found stuff that needed to be surgically repaired. So hopefully his injury is not chronic, but only time will tell.

Javon coming for blood this year
This guy has to be healthy and produce this year. At this point I don't even care about living up to draft slot. Just get in there and provide similar production to Jones
dude has arthritis of the knee hes had it since college and we still picked him
this wont get better

still mad as fcuk we picked him

I do have hope that Kinlaw is, or will become, a workout warrior like a Frank Gore. A well conditioned athlete will have less injuries (Rice and Frank Gore are examples). The knee injury happened on astro-turf in the Dallas game. They should outlaw astroturf! They, I believe, had hoped it would be something he can just rehab without an operation, but it never really healed after the Dallas game and he never was really pain free. Then I believe they went in an did an arthroscopy (or some minimally invasive procedure - or it could have been more MRI's ) and the fact that he was still in pain after almost a year - they decided to operate and found out much more about the injury when they did. Knee injuries nowadays aren't career enders and like Bosas father back in Miami, the ligaments they replace them with (I believe from cadavers) can actually make them better than new - defer to PasoDoc here.

On whether Kinlaw can replace DJ Jones, I'm going on a limb here and rely on Kocureck to develop him into a monster like Deforest. He's done magic with retreads like Arden Key, Willis, Omenihu, and Ebukam -- so I'm hoping he can replicate that with a much more talented and physically gifted Kinlaw.

He better, because he's gonna be counted on to fill that D.J. Jones role. Frankly, I the expectations of him are sky-high, as they should be. He was drafted 14th overall. Though he was injured his rookie season he's had time to learn and fix his deficiencies. So for me, from the first game, if he isn't at least 90% of what D.J. was, and somewhat dominant by seasons end, it will be a disappointment, and for me he'll be a bust. He needs to be a major reason teams can't run on us. If he isn't Lynch and Shanny need to be looking to draft his replacement or bring in a FA.

When you're drafted 14 overall you don't get too many "ah shucks" benefits of the doubt. Sorry, but that's just what it is. He's a 1st rounder on a SB-ready team. He needs to produce, and produce early.
We went from hoping Javon Kinlaw could be the next Chris Jones to hoping he can be as good as DJ Jones.

And that's not a slight at DJJ because he's a baller, but damn, you expect way more from the 14th overall pick.
