relatively inexpensive as a backup, and he carries about a 5 million dollar dead cap hit if cut, so I see him playing out his 4th year in 2023. Maybe just maybe if he's healthy for a full off-season, he will play better. The real question is, is he serviceable as a backup? or would that roster spot be worth the dead cap hit. I think the 49ers keep him on and see how he responds health wise and with more reps. Certainly hasn't show much so far though.

oh wow....yeah....no WAY they take on dead money to get rid of him

49ers are one of the better teams in not creating tons of dead cap space

JL learned a lesson with Dee Ford. He is still costing us nearly $9M in dead money. No more of that.

Unless he can eve rget healthy he will never be anything but a backup. I was listening to Dennis Brown yesterday and he said that Kinlaw needs to learn to play with a lower pad level. The O linemen can just stand him up and push him back even though he's supposed to be really strong. They get leverage on him and completely nullify his strength.

We've been talking about Kinlaw's pad level since college. I don't know how you fix pad level without functioning knees.

It's never getting fixed.
He didn't reach that point until December...and that was without the benefit of TC. In terms of pro-level training and coaching, he is almost a rookie.

I want to see him go through OTAs and focused work with Kocurek this off-season. KK has gotten good performance from less gifted guys but they were all healthy. Let's see what he can do with Kinlaw.

He should show improvement a year removed from the ACL.
Can't imagine the pad level thing getting resolved . Maybe if this was his rookie year, but folks like heroism have been calling it out for a while. I was willing to cut him some slack previously and I admire he busted his tail to rehab and get back, I just don't expect much from him going forward. Sucks

Maybe, the pad level improves with better bend on the knee.
Payne would be ideal. We need a monster in the middle. Kinlaw won't be better next year fellas. Cut this dude and move on.

No reason to cut him with is 5mil dead cap hit. Let's see what he's got next year and if he can stay heathy. Might be a bust but there's no reason to get rid of him yet. He would still be useful as a backup worse case.

Yeah but thats using hindsight. We should have drafted Ceedee Lamb.

Lamb? no

Yup. You don't cut him until he's beaten out in training camp.

Lamb would have been OK, but the best move would have been to trade Armstead and keep Buckner
Kinlaw's salary for 2023 is ~$2.7 mil, so if he still looks bad next year, they will probably cut him to save $2.7 mil.

(of course, if he seems healthy and is playing well they will keep him)
