Alot of football left to play before we go talking numbers.
Maybe but I'm allowed to speculate and I believe by years end I will be correct. Also, the 5th round is our money round
Oh yea of course u're allowed to speculate....just want u to recognize that you've locked him into a certain level of play for 15+ potential games that's not too great and not too bad either. Pretty extreme, given the earliness.
You don't think as of right now, even if he doesn't finish the whole year or get gaudy numbers he won't get 6 or so million per year by a desperate team for a former 1st round pick? That's right around the comp 5th range. So not extreme at all imo
I think he can be our goal line or short yardage FB... .. and we can call him THE FREEZER !!!
Here are some thoughts about a potential Kinlaw trade:
- He'd save the 49ers $2.7M in '23 with no impact in future years because we declined his 5th year option.
- He's on the field for 30-40% of the defensive snaps, primarily on base downs as a run defender to spell Hargrave and Armstead.
- Like it or not, he's had some impact with a PD and a pressure.
- If he keeps this trajectory up, he'd likely net us a 6th-7th round comp pick for us.
- Right now, he's too much of an injury risk for other teams. They would likely trade him for a conditional pick that would yield a similar value as an expected comp pick.
- I think the 49ers would be more serious about trading him if McGill and Davis stood out. But our FO and coaching staff think he's at the top of our second unit.
If you believe the above to be true, I rather have Kinlaw for a full year and eventually get that comp pick in '25 vs. a day 3 selection in the '24 draft.
