He's finally healthy and getting reps. Its been paying off.
I honestly think he played pretty well. We need him too. Because we have a lot of injuries on the interior. So he needs to go and play well for a few games.
The 49er patience with this guy is paying off. With Armstead and Hargrave injured, he played well yesterday and will be needed in the upcoming games. He gets penetration on passing downs and is improving against the run. He should have a good game against an average/below-average Arizona OL.
wonder if JL is going to pick up his option?

It's too late for that.

And in my opinion even if it wasn't, it still would be too expensive to pick up. He's playing decent but not at a great level or anything yet. He's a serviceable rotational player that is showing improvement. Kind of seems like where Solomon Thomas was at.

The bar was set so low with him that he wasn't even hardly worth a roster spot even though cutting him would save no money. Seeing him able to play I think is surprising a lot but let's not get carried away.

No way. He's not worth that. He's just playing for a contract somewhere else now. His been a disappointment most of his time here.

It will depend entirely on how he plays the rest of this year. As it stands right now, I don't see it happening.

It can't. They would've needed to pick it up last Spring and they didn't.

He's playing better for sure, but I still don't think he's been playing at the standard we need him to be in run defense.

This DL would be much better with an above average run defending DT. None of our DTs are great in that area IMO. Maybe AA... but that's it.

From F to C, but I still like to give players their due, especially when I'm highly critical of their play.

We definitely need to add a real beefy run-stopping IDL this offseason.
Happy to see him playing well, especially considering the mental health issues he has had to deal with

I don't know anything about his college strengths, but maybe Kalia Davis is that guy? He's huge at 6'2", 310 lbs.

Agreed. I could only see him staying if he's fine being rotational backup at that market value, but I am sure he could get more elsewhere and who could blame him for going after that.

Over $10M. I don't think so. He is serviceable but nothing more than that. If he is open to a contract extension at lower dollar amounts, then maybe JL would be open to that.

People are being awfully generous with what they think his market will be. Most teams didn't want to touch former defensive rookie of the year Chase Young because of his injury history. No one is going give a guy who had knee problems in college and landed on IR 3 of 4 years with knee injuries a big contract. He's just far too risky. He's been playing well, but regardless of where he goes he's going to be a rotational player.

Let's see how how plays the rest of the year. Maybe he's one of those guys that just plays better with more reps.
