It will depend entirely on how he plays the rest of this year. As it stands right now, I don't see it happening.

It can't. They would've needed to pick it up last Spring and they didn't.

True. I should have specified resigning him. That will depend on market rates.

He's playing better for sure, but I still don't think he's been playing at the standard we need him to be in run defense.

This DL would be much better with an above average run defending DT. None of our DTs are great in that area IMO. Maybe AA... but that's it.

From F to C, but I still like to give players their due, especially when I'm highly critical of their play.

We definitely need to add a real beefy run-stopping IDL this offseason.

Same. Speaking of that, I've been really harsh on Ferrell, and I thought this week was probably his best game. Gotta give credit where credit is due.
Maybe Kinlaws best game so far.

Happy to see him playing well, especially considering the mental health issues he has had to deal with

Agreed. I could only see him staying if he's fine being rotational backup at that market value, but I am sure he could get more elsewhere and who could blame him for going after that.

People are being awfully generous with what they think his market will be. Most teams didn't want to touch former defensive rookie of the year Chase Young because of his injury history. No one is going give a guy who had knee problems in college and landed on IR 3 of 4 years with knee injuries a big contract. He's just far too risky. He's been playing well, but regardless of where he goes he's going to be a rotational player.

I mean we all thought McGlinchey would have low market value as well,...but "someone" paid him. It only takes 1 team.

And there's still alot more football to be played.

Starting OTs are much more valuable in the market than backup DTs

Yes. Not talking about the worth of the actual contract,...but the "relative" worth.

Go into his thread and the sentiment was he wasn't going to get paid.

But the general trend here is the same: signing a guy coming off his rookie contract.

If he closes out the season the way he's playing now,...some team will gamble on a young talent,.. probably more than we're willing to. Happens all the time.
Honestly I'd be happy if Kinlaw plays himself into a solid contract. I don't think we would re-sign him, but it feels like he's making an impact play in the last couple of games. He's starting to figure it out and is staying healthy.

I'm good letting him go, as long as we get a #6 🏆, I think the 49ers have done pretty well drafting DT's in the later rounds. DJ Jones, for example. But if the 49ers can keep him, I'll be ok with that too.

No one thought McGlinchey was going to have a low market value. We didn't even offer him a contract because the FO knew they weren't going to be in the ballpark with a player they didn't value that much, but he was the #1 ranked lineman in FA. Denver waaaay overpaid obviously. Bottom line is Kinlaw could have 8 sacks this season and he still wouldn't get a huge guaranteed contract strictly because of his injury history.
I don't think they will resign Kinlaw because his roster spot is easy to upgrade for them. With so many highly paid players, the team should focus on rebuilding the interior DL through the draft. They can save cash there while upgrading the run defense. You can do that with day-3 picks.

Yup. Maybe Kalia is the next man up. But I'm confident in drafting d-line in mid rounds with this team and coaching staff.
