Lombardi already encapsulated how we do business here. We resign all our A listers and we allow our B listers to walk and we net comp picks as a result. Kinlaw is a clear B lister as we never picked up his 5th year option

Aiyuk is clearly an A lister. He will be resigned as is Purdy. They won't walk. Bosa and Deebo were A listers.

We will keep this trend as we let B listers and minority DCs earn big deals and promotions elsewhere while we net comp picks which we use for cheap rookie contracts and or in season trades for veteran talents we feel can add to the roster.

This formula has helped us build the best roster in football. We are gonna let Kinlaw walk unless he has no market and he fits our budget and we are gonna draft on OL and DL and wherever else we deem necessary. If anyone on DL we resign it's gonna be Chase Young as a priority over Kinlaw

Given what he has been putting on tape the past 5-6 games, he is likely to have a good market value. I don't see us resigning him unless AA's foot problems become an issue as with Patrick Willis.

Seattle will welcome him with open arms.

Why would AA's foot problems have any bearing on us resigning Kinlaw? Kinlaw isn't a starter let alone a replacement for AA. Kinlaw is a backup role player whose strength is primarily run defense, which can be or hit or miss throughout the year. He provides very little pass rush. I highly doubt he's going to have "good market value."

Either way, his future isn't here. We have our interior pass rush in AA and Hargraves with Kalia Davis as a potential player there. The 49ers need to upgrade the run defense, and that can be done with cheaper and younger bodies.

Yep, we've seen exactly that play out on the line the past 5 seasons. We've had a dozen 4-6 sack guys on 1 or 2 year deals that we let walk. Kerry Hyder, Arden Key, Omenihu, DJ Jones, probably Randy Gregory, etc.. They bring in talented players on a couple million a year deals and then they sign elsewhere for $5-$10m/yr. The blue chip guys get signed and they constantly rotate solid backups around them.

I am not suggesting we resign him as the situation stands now. I'm only saying he is a much better player than some here have been saying. After a slow start at the beginning of the year, he has come on strong in the past 5 games.

According to PFF, he is ranked #17 in pass rush with a 76.3 grade. He had a strong game against Seattle where he earned the 6th highest grade.

I have no idea what he may be offered in FA but it won't be peanuts if he continues as he is now.
Kinlaw's contract money went to Hargrave. Period. It's a tough business, but you've got to stay healthy and perform at a high level consistently to earn that big payday. Kinlaw did not.

That said, I love the man. I love his play. He is clearly auditioning his talents for his next team and I hope it goes well for him. At some point we will need to draft a replacement because AA is getting up there in terms of age (30). AA has two years left on the five year deal he signed in 2020. I can see the 49ers targeting a replacement in next April's draft, or the year after.

Dts can play well into their 30s. I expect AA to get an extension.

Haven't heard anything about Buckner this year. But Davis might e the answer.

True, but I do miss Mostert. Just think of what a 1-2 punch we'd have with him now.

Buckner too, obviously, but that's was hard to pull off with our cap situation as it was.

We don't resign B list players UNLESS they have no market and come back here for a prove it deal like DJ Jones did. Kinlaw may get a nice contract elsewhere and this plays right into our formula. The A list players coming up due for a deal this offseason in my eye are Aiyuk and even though it will be just 8 games or so, Chase Young. We will likely try to resign them in that order and let Kinlaw walk to net comp picks

Buck's money went largely to Jimmy G. Plus Paraag had a BIG issue giving Buck AD money so we kept the less expensive AA and took Kinlaw and continued to build around them and kept up a top defense regardless. We missed Mostert but CMC gets all the carries here so we are just fine without him but I agree it would have made for a devastating 1-2 punch

Yeah, Aiyuk is priority #1 and Chase Young deal, Charvarius Ward and Hufanaga extensions behind that imo.

Right
And there always seems to be available quality Dline guys who haven't played up to expectations and are let go by their teams.

Many want to come here to revive their careers and go on to better paydays elsewhere.
