I'll add Joe Gibbs to the list. He won three Super Bowls with three different, all fairly mediocre, quarterbacks,

and yet he gets ripped for not getting to the super bowl as much as he did. he did ignore the run game i think when he had marino and maybe we showed the nfl how to beat marino and make them one dimensional in the super bowl
And look at the Dolphins since he left. When he retired, he was 9-7. 10-6 the year prior. Miami has never been that good since.

347 career wins...that's a staggering number. Only 2 losing seasons out of 33. I don't know if anyone will ever duplicate that. RIP Coach.

I would have Gibbs, Noll, Jimmy Johnson and Paul Brown in the next group.
I see great coaches in 2 groups. Guys like Shula, Noll and Lombardi who were great because they lasted a long time and won a lot of games. Then there are guys like Walsh who didn't coach a long time but left his mark on the league with all the head coaches that coached under him and the offense he created. It's still being used in some form 40 years later. Johnson might be a surprise to some people but he could coach. He won at Oklahoma Stare, Miami and Dallas. He was kind of like Pete Carroll because he wasn't a creative coach. Like Carroll he was more of a rah-rah type that got the players pumped up. Belichick makes my list for longevity and creativity. His defensive genius can't be questioned and was one of the toughest coaches Walsh had to match wits with as defensive coordinator under Parcells.
