Reading Michael Thomas twitter feed today.

What ever happened to freedom of speech? Just because you don't agree with him don't crucify the man. He's been class through and through. He doesn't like when people kneel during anthem. His opinion. We may disagree but to see people ganging up on him is disgusting. Even going far as to call him a racist.
It was just awful timing to talk about anthem protests. It's basically changing the narrative off a serious issue right now.

Obviously I'm no Saints fan. I'd love to watch them implode but to see them swarming Brees like that ain't right. He's one of the good men out there that does not stand for police brutality. He don't like people kneeling so what. I fully expect him to issue an apology and you know what that's ok because somthing bigger is at stake. To tear a man down cus he has his own views just shows how vicious the rhetoric is.
The whole thing with Brees is that he complains about those kneeling "disrespecting" the flag, but he doesn't seem to mind the NFL disrespecting the flag before every single game. It is against the flag code for the flag to be displayed flat horizontally. He's either too ignorant to be discussing flash policy, or a hypocrite because he only cares when it is citizens exercising their constitutionally protected rights.

He does do good work in his community, but he's gonna pay the price when the hitting starts, even his own teammates were calling his ignorant take.

I was with Drew Brees when i seen the headline. Was thinking it was going to be because the conversation has moved past that and kneeling would only take away from the real conversation.

Then i read his whole quote.

I hope they don't kneel because as i said, it's just going to convolute the message.

It wasn't until the NBA players started speaking without kneeling that this topic really grew legs.

Kaep kneeling brought the topic to life but that literally seems to be as far as he could have taken it. Mainly because the conversation switched to something else.

The media is to blame for the lost message.

There was very little coverage nationally as to why Kap and the others were kneeling. It was a lot more "NFL players protest during National Anthem"

Well no sh*t that incited a lot of outrage and negative reactions. Especially early on...and the whole "Kap is a clown" tweet from Bosa was after his very first time when he just sat during the anthem and before he even started kneeling and before the message as to why he was doing it was out.

Now 4 years later the issues are clear. Now there is no excuse when you know nothing changed. We can't go another 4 years with things staying the same.

Nothing happened to freedom of speech

Freedom of speech includes the freedom to crucify people with speech .

Sorry, what? Was Brees arrested for what he said? Free speech doesn't mean freedom from other consequences

Even if I don't share his view I do believe people shouldn't be oppressed for what they believe. That's fundamental in an eye to eye interaction. But who wants to be on the same level right? Everyone thinks they are better than the other side.
With the NBA now confirming they will end early October, I think we will here some news of the NFL season starting October 8 Thursday.
Allows more time for fans to return and the NFL can view other professional leagues approach for covid-19 positive test.

lmao from a football perspective this is great for us cause NOLA was our biggest threat on the NFC. But the pure hatred he's getting is slightly ridiculous. Dude did so much for the NO community and that's disregarded now because of his opinions on kneeling. I disagree with his statement but wow people turned on him so quick.

I'm kind of hoping that he pulls an Andrew Luck and announces retirement right before the season starts. Going from Brees to Winston would be a steep drop. We'd most likely beat them in November (assuming the schedule doesn't change).

Athletes would be wise to heed the title of the old Gatorade song "Be Like Mike". It seems that MJ never comments on anything outside of basketball.
I think people were confused on what Brees was trying to say. Maybe he could of worded it differently to help, but I think there would be still a lot of people crucifying him.

They seem to think Brees thought that Kap was kneeling because he wanted to disgrace the military and the country. I'm pretty certain Brees knows that Kap was kneeling to protest the police brutality of blacks. I mean who doesn't know that at this point except maybe a few hicks in the deep south that don't have the internet.

I think what he was trying to say was that although Kap was kneeling to bring light to Police Brutality, he feels that method of protest is disgraceful to the sacrifices of the people that fought for the flag and probably wished he protested in a different manner. I mean that's his opinion and I'm sure a lot of people don't agree with it, but his actions speak louder to the community of New Orleans.

Also I hate the media asking him the question in the first place. You knew they wanted click bait.

Well said. Him not liking player's using the platform of the National Anthem to shed light on police brutality/ethnic equality doesn't mean he doesn't understand why they were doing it or disagreed with what they were kneeling for. It shouldn't erase all the good he has done for that community, a lot of which directly benefited African Americans. It's a shame he's actually being labeled a racist by some when nothing he said was actually racist, you can claim it was ignorant but not even close to racism.
It doesn't bother me that Kap kneeled since in his mind that was probably the best way he could call attention to what he saw as a problem. If he just came out and made a statement to the press it would have been forgotten in a week. The fact is a lot of fans at the games are half in the bag during the anthem after tailgating for 3 or 4 hours. Many are talking or looking around. They are waiting for the jet fly over while listening to a guest singer mangle the anthem by trying to make it a pop tune. I don't think many are really thinking about freedom and justice for all.

Regardless of what he's said which context is being debated anyways, Drew Brees is still a proven hero to New Orleans. There's a significant number of rich and famous athletes who have never given a single penny or never done a thing for their community but they're one of the loudest voice out there. Maybe it's not rushing to judgment or jumping to conclusion right away is the right thing to do until we really dig into it.

I can't see him doing that.
