This is a bunch of virtue signaling by white people.

I've yet to see Native Americans speaking out against the name - where are those reports? Where is the outcry, from non-whites?

Most polls I've seen show Native Americans being supportive / not offended. But of course these polls are immediately discounted by the snowflake crowd.

Norte Dame Fighting Irish....where is the outrage there?

Perhaps you haven't been looking?

But I don't see the connection to Notre Dame. I know quite a few Irish people and they are all thrilled at the connection and see nothing wrong with the name. There are various epithets used at the Irish which would have been equivalent to the Redskins, which probably would have caused offence.
You can find all kinds of logos like Fighting Irish, Vikings, Cowboys, etc. The difference is those groups aren't still oppressed and looked down on. No Cowboy would consider it an insult to be called one. Same goes for the Irish. The Vikings as a group were never persecuted. If you can't see the difference then you have a problem. The Redskins are being asked by the company that holds the naming rights to the stadium. They also want a new stadium in Washington D.C. but have been told they will not get one unless they change the name.

I've always felt that a mascot or nickname should reflect something unique about the area the team is from like the 49ers, Cowboys, Giants and Patriots. They refer to something that identifies the region. When the Oiler moved to Tennessee they dropped the name and changes it to Titans. If you can't find a good name that reflects something unique then fall back on the animals like lions, tigers, etc.

It's like living in South America and calling your franchise the Gringos, it's offensive to whites, but the Latinos could give a s**t. Which is what Americans do.

Most whites wouldn't care since they have been the group in power for so many years. When you already consider yourself superior, racial insults don't hurt as much as when you've been down trodden for years or centuries.

Gringos wouldn't work. D.C. is about 50% black.

In all honesty nothing has ever inspired me to post before as evidenced by this being my first post but being half Blackfoot and the rest Danish and Irish decent growing up in the slums of the reservation I personally have no more issue with the term redskin than I do the various white or halfbreed supposed discriminatory names I've had directed my way in my lifetime. I was taught to be proud of my heritage, to stand tall and own who I am and where I came from and in my opinion this current movement is nothing but...
A: white guilt and people trying to make themselves look good and prove they are nothing but good non racist folks
B: Opportunistic and often racist minorities looking to gain attention, power, wealth, fame, etc.
C: Nothing but thinskinned individuals who want to play victim and use the race card as an excuse for every issue in their lives and live out a rather bitter self sodomizing existence.
So... I vote leave the name be. I'm as proud to be native or redskinned as I am to be of white decent by any other name. Now back to something that really matters to us all, let's go win #6 niner faithful!
I can't believe no one seems to have thought of this...
