Lmao wow....we are living in a South Park episode
They should rename themselves as the Washington Crimson Tide. Half of their defense comes from Alabama.
This thread reminded me of the adage-- be better today than yesterday.

They wanted to honor the Native Americans but named them by the color of their skin lol. Mild or agregious, it's still racist.

It was ok up until about the 90's. That's when I heard of it being racist, but not enough people give a s**t back then. It's now 2020. We all need to be a little more sensitive to racism. The name change seems superficial, but if we can be a little bit better for it than yesterday, why not...

The only thing that's changed the last 20/30 years is technology which has turned American culture into entitled cry babies. Like I said in another thread if you guys claim to be so "woke" then start throwing away all those made in china merchandise/products you have in your home that was handmade by children in sweatshops, you have TONS. Treat all people with respect and judge them by their character not their race/gender. Not very complicated. All this other cancel culture nonsense is just pushing an agenda that will eventually swallows western society as we know it

Every previous generations seemed to have this fear for the changes they see happening. 50's 60's 70', yet we are still here...

I can't think of major changes in 90's 00's. 2010 to 2020 a lot of changes or attempts of changes the last 10 years. The 80's was just a lot of fun

Were they tearing down statues?, canceling holidays?calling our founding fathers murdering racist monsters? Or complaining about something as insignificant as a sport teams name during those generations? I can only speak on the 90s,00s,& 2010s because those are the eras I lived in. A lot has changed in those times and not for the better. It sad really... when I was a teenager I thought by the time the boomers started to die off racism would mostly be a thing of the past and we as people could move on into the future, especially after Obama became president. yet here we are complaining and expecting white people to be accountable for something that most if not all of us were not even alive for

The underlying current of racism is still alive. You can't force people to like someone by passing laws, especially when they were brought up to be suspicious or hate a certain group. Removing these statues is just a small step on the road to removing the blatant symbols. A friend of mine who is black and grew up in the south once told me he felt more comfortable in the south in some ways because he knew where he stood. He knew a lot of people there looked down on him. He said in other places, racism is hidden and in some ways that made it worse.

Yes. Why is it that so many posters think that this has only just arisen and therefore can be dismissed? The Redskins as a sports name has been disliked for many years and there has been campaigns etc to get it changed, on and off, for decades.

If they were it was a very small vocal minority. The whole "change the name" campaigns didn't pick up steam until the early 2010s right around the time people starting becoming hyper sensitive and the rise of cancel culture.

Yeah there's 300+ billion people who live in this country. You can't expect all of them to not be s**tty people. I don't see how tearing down Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglas statues is progressive, especially when they helped black people, and in Lincoln's case, it cost him his life.

so in your mind people just suddenly woke up one day and on January 11th, 2010, the whole world just decided to have a sudden change of heart?

could it be that people have been feeling these sort of things for a while now? and the fact that over 3 billion people on this planet now use some form of social media, you are now seeing those grievances more and more because you have access to 3 billion people? nah, thats gotta be a big coincidence. obviously your logic is correct one.

I agree but sadly lke so many causes and protests, people go overboard. Just like the Redskins logo where people start pointing to Cowboys and Vikings as being offensive. By the way, we have 330 Million not Billion people. Thank goodness.

Who is getting upset over a cowboy or viking? When has the word cowboy or viking ever been used in an offensive way? And who the hell here has ever been called a dumb viking? Are any of those things really an issue in this country or you're just making up stuff?

The word redskin is offensive. Just like if was the blackskins, or the rednecks, or slanted eyes. How some people don't get this is beyond me. Our educational system has failed big time.
