Um, only for people who don't know what it refers to. The Cleveland Browns were named after Paul Brown. So, there doesn't seem to be any reason to change that, mmm?

imagine having to explain that in 2020 when a google search will tell you that.

Given the history of the WZ, most likely not.

Bro, you are saying some crazy stuff here.
It doesn't matter if the community is aggrieved, you will act as if they were?
Even if 99% of the people who use the term have no animosity to the aggrieved peoples and have no intention of offending anyone. And not only that, they actually aren't offending the majority of the community.
Of course, the situation is complicated and requires empathic and careful analysis to portray accurately.
But that analysis is as unlikely to come from racist douche-bags as from woke bourgeoisie activists.
Woke joy-riders are more concerned with their own self-justification and internal validation than actually helping the affected communities they say they support. As your statements above reflect.
Woke-ism is not a grass roots neighborly movement but yet another by-product of the Republicratic media machine whose goal is to polarize every aspect of the citizen community with endless tribe-on-tribe conflicts that can only be resolved by participation in the same political system that is the agent for the economic destruction of the citizen community.
This whole issue with the r-word and Native American mascot has been co-opted by various actors such as NCAI, Fed Ex, and Dan Snyder to leverage historical injustice into media grievance street cred for the purpose of advancing their own interests and profitable operation.
Doing so makes it completely impossible to find a mechanism that resolves the underlying issues correctly, naturally, appropriately for the actual parties involved -- tribal citizens living in their homes in the tribal community and a football sporting franchise with a 9 digit annual budget.
Woke-ism is more of a barrier to this process than old farts like myself, in my opinion -- despite my obvious old school archie bunker mentality about how people of different ethnicity, religions and sexual preferences should be treated.
I never said I would act as if they were upset. I just call it like i see it. The name "redskins" is very easy to identify why it is/has been offensive if you just think about it/hear people out who are offended. That doesn't mean EVERY native american is offended or even cares. I'm not the type of person who is just offended by anything. If someone says something is offensive, you should take it at face value and then go from there on if you can connect the dots or if it doesn't hold water. I think every person has a line where they think crossing that line is in offensive territory. For some people, it's very little in my opinion (and yeah, i don't like having to walk on eggshells around said people but that's what it is). Other people, you'd literally have to go clearly racist terms (like the N word) to get them there.
I agree that, as with all things in life, there are going to be people who latch onto a movement or "take a stand" for b******t reasons (money, to feel important, to feel superior, etc.). You can see this on social media all the time after a tragedy. "Thoughts and prayers!" This is about THEM making sure you know how upset they are about this tragedy. Unfortunately, not much you can do about it. Human beings are what they are. BUT! That doesn't mean that every person who has identified "Redskins" as an offensive term is doing it for nefarious purposes or virtue signaling.
As for "being woke", I don't consider myself "woke". As I said before, I just call things as I personally see them. Doesn't mean I'm always right or always wrong on the subject, just my own opinion. There is a line everyone gets to and then it either crosses that or it doesn't. But I don't think there is a benefit to not looking at something from an unbiased point of view and seeing if it makes sense. To me, "Redskins" is a derogatory term and the team name should be changed. If you asked me this 30 years ago when I started watching football it'd have never crossed my mind, but there is nothing wrong with learning/growing/understanding as you get older. Take care my man!
