If Reed is out 6-8 weeks, why are they going to put him on short term IR?

Man that turf in NY/ NJ for the Jets / Giants is just devastating. It annihilates your whole team.

Our real schedule starts in 7 weeks, so if he's back around then our O will be in full strength.

If we weren't terribly short handed at the time it probably wouldn't have happened that way. Under the circumstances I don't like it but I definitely understand it.
Agree. I don't like it either - after a player is injured, to put him back in. But yeah, shorthanded that day and I think Dwelly and Woerner can handle the rest from here on in until Reed is healthy again. We'll need him for the last half of the season where we are going to go against the entire NFC west buzz saws. I believe somewhere in October or November is where we have a string of NFC west teams with SEadderall being the last game of the season. We need our full offense by that time be 100% if we have any hope of beating Seadderall.

mayo49, the new rules are that any player placed on IR after the initial cuts can come back after 3 weeks, unlimited number of players, but that's just for 2020, due to COVID, hopefully the NFL makes it the permanent rule, so teams aren't penalized when placing a player on IR, say you have 3 guys you want back that go on IR, that are gonna be out longer than 3 weeks, but the rule for designated to return is 8 weeks, and only 2 players, so being unlimited would help teams greatly, and would make a ton of sense. But this is the NFL, they don't really make sense when making rules.

right? Teams should take advantage of the new rule...if you know a guy will be out more than 3 weeks (and it's not season ended) there's no reason not to use short-term IR. Opens up a roster spot

Some guys are just destined to be hurt all the time. I hate to use the term injury prone because sometimes it's just bad luck but I guess some guys are more fragile than others. Weak ligaments or fragile bones can be hereditary.

Well, perhaps getting injured now will make his availability for the end of the season run more likely than if he continued playing now.
