Ford's edge spot is really the only position in which a rookie might start. Excepting injury, A QB or CB drafted at 12 might not even see the field for at least a year. And if Ford is healthy (yeah, I know that's a big if) then that spot isn't open either.

Yall are acting like we're the Jets or something.

We do have need at quarterback.

If we have a need a QB then so do 25 other teams.

I agree with All22 in that Kyle isn't going to draft a QB at #12 and bench him. To me that's a ton of draft capital warming the bench when we can have a young center or edge rusher to help us win games at the #12 spot in 2021.

Having said that, I can see Kyle drafting a rookie QB in the mid to later rounds to add competition for that 3rd string QB position, assuming Rosen is the 2nd string QB. They can always pick a 1st round QB *next year* if Jimmy stinks it up-- ShanaLynch just signed their 3 year+ extension this past year. They have a bit of time to get the QB position right.

Thats the type of investment that seems to work at QB. Draft a solid prospect high and let him learn behind the starter for a year or two. That's what I'm hoping for. Let Jimmy build his value back up with the solid year we all know he'll have and then leave on good terms. I'm hoping for that or Watson.
Reed isn't coming back. Pretty certain of that. We've scouted a good deal of tight ends, pretty well signaling we're moving on.

Minshew. Then there will be no problem.

I think the draft is deep at pass catching TE.

I don't think there is any TE in the draft that could step in and perform as well as Reed in the offense, barring injury of course

No center in this draft or very few others is going to go #12. No center has been drafted in the top 12 in the last 20 years...talk about wasted draft capital. Mack is starting at C this year.....no brainer. Pouncey was drafted at #15, he was highest one since 2000. No EDGE is going top 12 this year either, 49ers could have their pick of any even with a trade down.
I wonder if it was his sideline outburst that did him in or maybe he is just asking for too much $$$? He played well when he was in the lineup but he did get injured and missed some time. Could be a combination of all 3 and we are just waiting for his price to drop.

And Reed may not consider coming back at a low price being worth the injury risk. His noggin has been smashed a few times too many.

Yeah i was surprised he even came back last year. But if he's a #2 for someone he may still want to play considering taking less reps

Ya, this should be a perfect place for him.

Maybe after the draft if they don't take one.
