Prior to 2009, this was the stance:
"We were instructed to play the anthem when players weren't on the field," said former NFL executive Jim Steeg, referencing his time as a San Diego Chargers executive. "They didn't want, when the networks were coming in for the tease, to have the anthem on in the background. They wanted the players coming in and the cheer of the crowd."
Once the military began advertising in the NFL, and the NFL agreed to sell camo gear and give the proceeds to the Salute to Service program (which has raised $26M), things changed.

Pandering is the act of expressing one's views in accordance with the likes of a group to which one is attempting to appeal. The term is most notably associated with politics. In pandering, the views one is expressing are merely for the purpose of drawing support up to and including votes and do not necessarily reflect one's personal values.

If the 9ers cancel a game and refuse to play I'll be f**king pissed!
They have 6 other days to volunteer and help the community. They have 6 other days to speak into a microphone.
As we have all seen with the NBA, their antics have gotten them nowhere. Ratings are in the toilet. Their boycott lasted 1 day and for good reason. We watch sports to get time away from the madness of the world.

Many people i know are tired on the one sided politics in sports and are turning them off. I can't stop watching the 49ers but will skip watching any other teams or sports. Yes, the ratings will crash. The big loss will be in advertising revenue and the TV contracts. I'm afraid the salary caps will take another hit they didn't account for. Just when we get a good team, we will have to lose players we could have kept.
They need to take a moment to show concern for what's happening to people in the world. They need to make it less divisive and promote unity. The whole team needs to lock arms and kneel before or after the anthem. Otherwise, keep the players off the field for the anthem.
The biggest issue is the media. They will keep showing and talking about it all game. Then all the post game questions will be about the kneeling.
The focus will be about the kneeling and the anthem itself and less about any world problems. Very little coverage will be about the game itself.

Easy there, this response type is an example of the privilege and social injustice that the athletes are protesting about. A lot of the athletes protesting did not grow up as millionaires and have an obligation as those with a voice that will be heard to raise awareness for those who will not. Raging about their protest for social justice to accommodate our entertainment desires once again illustrates part of the issues that people want awareness and change.

So, the salary cap will tighten for us but not the other teams?

Such a simple solution out of this but f that let's force every player to stand.

Never understood why people think athletes aren't allowed to express political opinions while said people express political opinions on an internet sports forum while at work.

First, people aren't saying that athletes are not allowed to express political opinions, they are just saying they don't want to hear it covered when discussing sports aka during a game activity. Two, this thread is in reaction to the NFL's stated plans to push politics into the game in support of BLM. We aren't pushing the politics in the discussion, we are reacting to it.

I don't want to hear your opinion as I don't agree with it
