Zach Wilson, QB, Denver Broncos

A player has to show interest in progressing. Kaepernick never did, especially after that Packers playoff game. Dude said "f**k mechanics, I'm just going to outrun and out-athlete everyone" and trained like it, working out with WR's, RB's and DB's in the offseason. Meanwhile you have guys like Josh Allen and Deshaun Watson putting in the time and effort to upgrade their mechanics and be overall better passers.

Beyond that, there was a lot working against him. Long delivery, one speed thrower who sucked at properly utilizing arc to throw down the field. He had a cannon but didn't know how to use it. In terms of mobility he was incredibly fast in a straight line, kind of like a DJ Metcalf but was never able to change directions and escape from pass rushers the way Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray and Lamar Jackson are able to. If he had been able to properly develop his deep passing he would have been a very good fit for a Bruce Arians style offense, just run the football and throw it deep, rinse and repeat.

Are you serious with that? Kaep worked out with Kurt Warner trying to be a pocket passer. He even stopped running the first like 10 games his final season trying to prove people wrong. He failed at it. But he tried.

So much this...his throwing mechanics was poop. He was awful with anticipation throws and throwing guys open.

He was very stiff as a runner imo. I think he would have more success in today's league but it would be more on a taysom hill scale .

Player showing interest is a big influence, but take Steve Young for example. Great QB and great athlete. He does not become anywhere near the player without Bill Walsh, Mike Holmgren, and Mike Shanahan. Kap becomes a completely different player if he comes into the league with Kyle as his HC and OC as opposed to Harbaugh/Roman.

Totally agree on the running. I remember watching him realizing he needs like 10 yards to build up to that next level speed he had. But he wasn't going to get that much space once teams figured him out unless he improved as a passed. I didn't really see him as a mobile guy. Not a lot of escapability or short area quickness like Russell Wilson or Michael Vick. Just great speed from 10-100 yards.
s**t I thought I was on the kaep thread

How hard did he work? They said Gabbert was watching 4-5 times more time studying than him based off tablet usage.

And this was a year before the whole kneeling situation

Can we stick to Zach Wilson. The actual NFL prospect in the upcoming draft.
So what's the difference between his WIDE OPEN receivers and Jones'?

Shootout incoming
Everything is wide open, but that swingout to the flat was impressive in itself. Very solid ball placement.
Kittle woulda caught that ball in the endzone...
His athletic skill set is off the charts. He does have a lot in common with Russell Wilson. Makes good decisions with the ball, accurate and mobile. Would to see him take dome snaps from under center to see his drop back and footwork since Kyle will want him to do it.
Looked like he got a little dinged up on the TD run.
BOOM!
