I also don't envision shanny going the rookie route. Personally I would not have a problem with it if they could find the right guy. We have a lot of young core players with a QB on a rookie contract I would shore up the O-line and defense.

Shanahan could draft Wilson and still have Garoppolo start for a year or two.
If Wilson is there you hand that card in with his name on it faster than a speeding bullet!!!

This exactly. Shanahan already blundered badly on passing up Watson and Mahomes in the same draft, so he shouldn't make the same mistake again. I would even be fine with him going in after backing up whoever for half a season.

Just because you draft a QB in the first doesn't mean it's a throwaway season. Most teams that draft a QB in the first aren't very good in the first place so they usually don't even make the playoffs.
Based on everything I know about Shanahan, I don't see anyway he turns over his offense to a rookie QB. I think if Garoppolo isn't the QB next year then it'll be someone like Cousins.
...or Matt Ryan if released, which I highly doubt.

I don't have a problem with Matt Ryan but how do we fix the O-line and fill holes on defense if we take on his contract ?

Watson and Mahomes are 100x the prospect Wilson is.

From everything I have read or heard, Cousins contract is unmovable this next offseason. Cousins has a cap hit of $31M so Vikings can't just cut him and thankfully we can't take on that contract. Even the friends I talk to that our Vikings fans, know that they are stuck with him (even though they want him gone). This is a saving grace for us.

Dude is so accurate downfield and the ball gets there in a hurry.

I'd like to see how he plays against a good team, because his 2,000 yards passing per year before 2020 wasn't impressive.

I am putting my stamp on it right now. This dude looks like the next Mahomes. I don't mind looking like a premature fool in saying that.
But of course, he needs to be developed and groomed just like Mahomes as well. Maybe Kyle can do it. He is supposed to be a quarterback guru.
Regardless though, there seem to be some good quarterbacks in this draft. Would be a real shame if we didn't dip into this at all.

I'm loving the tape on this kid. Sure, BYU doesn't face tough competition, but just looking at the ball placement and mobility and he's got the tools. His style would work wonders in Shanny's system. Imagine him on a PA rollout and hitting Aiyuk deep.

For what it's worth McShay has them rated:
1. Trevor Lawrence
2. Justin Fields
3. Trey Lance
4. Zach Wilson
5. Mac Jones

If we lose out or come close to it we should be able to get Wilson or Jones...we might have to trade up get Wilson. He is rising for sure
