Lynch and Shanahan should be following the Chiefs model this draft. The Chiefs are in consecutive Super Bowls because they took a chance and drafted Mahomes who they believed was their franchise QB despite having a good QB, Alex Smith, in place. We are now in that same spot. We have Jimmy G who is good but we need to land Wilson or Fields imo, preferably Wilson. Jimmy continues to start this coming year while the rook learns Shanny's offense. Plus the rook will likely get a chance to start since Jimmy usually gets injured at some point during the season. Assuming we hit on either Wilson or Fields, that will help our salary cap. It also will cost us less compensation in the form of draft picks as we will only have to give up likely 2 first rounders and probably one or two mid round picks as opposed to Watson who will command 3 (maybe 4) first rounders plus however many other mid round picks.

Or get Watson.
Last resort back up plan is Mac Jones at 12 and get him ready for when Jimmy gets hurt.
Those are the only 3 options I want to see at QB. One of Fields, Wilson, Watson, or Jones better be on this damn roster come start of the season.
And if they aren't?
Then we are ****ed if Jimmy gets hurt again. And may be the same even if he doesn't.
There are no other acceptable QB options for me. Wentz...Ryan...Cousins...
I can understand the fear of injury thing. But outside of that, when Jimmy starts, we generally win. I don't see how we're f**ked if he's healthy. Most of this narrative is really based off of one pass. He hits that one pass to Sanders and no one is having this conversation.
With that said, I'd like a QB behind him capable of winning games should he go down. I'm not all in on moving picks for a new QB unless guys start falling. Id rather have starting quality OL across the board. That would help. A lot. A lot more than people are willing to admit.
I'd like a change in philosophy on getting OL that can pass protect as well as run block. That would help as well. A lot. And it wouldn't cost nearly as much as moving up for a QB to only put them behind this shoestring O-line.
What's Jimmy's record for his last 10 starts??????? His honeymoon is long over. We've had near the best d in the league. There is a reason that they were in on Stafford. They don't trust Jimmy's body. They either land Watson or it's a trade up in the draft

Jimmy isn't good because he can't stay on the field. We literally can't win with our backup qb's. Critical year for ShannyLynch. Shanny's overall record is that of a failure. The NFL stands for not for long if ya can't win.Period.

Deshaun Watson could change the make up, otherwise it's looking like you need to go to 2 or 3 to get him.
I personally would do it, but I don't think we will.
There is a slight worry about his blitz recognition and also his hero complex. He plays with reckless abandon at times, not sure he can pull that off without getting hurt in the league.
Question - Think about Watson, Mahomes, Allen, Herbert etc. they all had "what if's" and question marks.
The question is can Shanahan coach the s**t out of him and mold him into a beast! That's what it's all about imo. Kyle's supposed to be that guy.
So get me the kid who they believe has all the physical tools and now Kyle can break him down and teach him. And Kyle basically passed on every single one of these guys so who knows wth he thinks. lol
I have no problem trading up for a QB even if he sits for a year or two as long as Kyle and co believe it - I'll give it a shot too.
I'm all over that, but can you imagine swinging a trade to 2 or 3 and sitting him?
No we'd be all in, I think Zach is worth it, but it's huge pressure on all involved. He who dares is my motto.
I wasn't ruling him out, just pointing out the risks.

Oh I agree. He looks great and I would imagine be killer in Kyles offense. I hear Saleh and the jets like him. I'm in nyc and that's the chatter at least.
Even then I personally don't care if he sits a year because I'd rather he develop properly, but a lot of the fan base would be ape s**t. Some people went full ace Ventura over Stafford lol.
We have more holes then just a an regardless.

6-4. 3 of the games were playoff games. The last 6 were this year where we had well...no need to get into the injury history of the team. I agree with not trusting Jimmy's body. I'm just not willing to blow up several drafts for a QB that may not pan out. I don't think our team is fully solid. The team in 2021 as it stands is not as talented as the 2019 team.
A month ago Josh Allen was everyone's darling, then he s**t the bed in the AFCCG. Should Buffalo be looking for upgrades? Watson was up 24-0 on the Chiefs and lost. Should Houston have given up on him last year?
Given the amount of free agents this year and extensions due in the next year or 2, I'd rather use our draft picks to add talent everywhere.
Now if they happen to make a move for a QB this year, I won't be mad. Especially if said QB has the ability to make up for certain shortcomings the team has. However I'm not going to be mad either if they opt to solidify the O-line, add another edge or two, receiver, corner, safety, etc.
Have you seen where we rank in terms of QB hits and pressures? Jimmy has long covered up for our weaknesses in pass protection. Id be happy if we could just be middle of the pack while keeping our strong run blocking. How many games did our starting center play this year? How many did the backup play? We were literally on our 3rd and 4th string center, tried our rookie 5th round pick at guard, and then there's the inspiring play of MM this year.
But nope..its all Jimmy. He's gotta go.

There's a lot of truth to this too. No matter what they do, OL, especially center, must be addressed. Williams needs to be brought back and they need to bring in actual, real competition at guard, not Tom Compton level scrub competition but someone that is an actual threat to take a starting job.

Nope. They won't do that. Cost is too much to go to 2 or 3
Thanks for crashing your car into my party and killing my hopes and dreams.

I have to wonder if the Niners would be more willing to trade picks if they didn't have a salary cap issue. Lynch has said he views the draft as a way to stay competitive and still keep under the cap.

This dude is still the most fun QB to watch. He's got the same type of swagger that Mahomes(and Johnny Manziel lol) had on the field.

I get what you are saying but the Chiefs model of success is nothing new. History has shown that plenty of teams have done the same exact thing the chiefs did but the QB they picked turned out to be a bust and the coaches and GMs who believed in those QBs are jobless.
I'm all for it but it's not my job that's on the line. It's not as simple as just trading up and thinking you will strike gold like the Chiefs did. They were very fortunate and more than half the teams that do it are not.

Lots of busts and so so QB's that teams moved up for thinking that they were drafting "The One." I mean the Rams certainly didn't give up a bunch of picks to move up for Goff thinking that they'd be dumping him a few years later. If Shanahan is completely sold on a QB like Wilson then I'm fine with them making a move to be able to draft him but you only go QB if you really believe they are THE QB, not because they are highly ranked or because you think you need a QB. That is how you talk yourself into RG3, Jared Goff, Josh Rosen, or Daniel Jones.
