Yeah no question... I like the upside of Lance but Fields is absolutely a blue chip player and you have to make the pick, he's going to be able to run any play Kyle draws up.

I'm sure we made the same offer to the Jets

Report says we talked to 5, 4, and 3. Not 2.

Report said we had trade talks with those teams but not with number 2. Didn't clarify whether we actually spoke to #2, but its possible we knew the Jets at 2 won't be trading out if Shanny or Lynch had an official or unofficial call to them.
Not a certainly at all that he will be gone.

Everybody also thought that the JETS were going to sign as many of our defensive players as they could. That K'wuan was going to be JET for sure. Things don't always work out the way it's expected to. They could fall in loved with Sewell or Pitts and decide that they'll stick with Darnold. Saleh might decide that he really wants to build that defense up and win that way, and grabs Parsons or somebody else They might decide that they like Fields a little better and take him instead.

There's a lot of thing that could happen. Even if they were sure, today, that they wanted Wilson....there's a lot of time between now and then to think about it and the more they think about it the more likely they are to change their minds.

That said, I'd be fine with Fields if Wilson is gone.

Simple explanation is that we have two guys we like equally and don't care which one it is.

That depends on who you ask
Ok Saleh...

You didn't want to trade all the way down to 12 so we came up to 3.

Here is our 2021 2nd rounder and a 3rd next year. Give us #2 now.
Something that does worry me about Wilson is that he's so good throwing off-platform and from unorthodox positions and arm slots that he could slowly devolve into that becoming his norm. Rodgers and Mahomes have a good grasp of when it's appropriate, but if a player starts throwing without properly position themselves, setting their feet or preserving balance, they could risk becoming like Sam Darnold where the majority of throws are from garbage platforms, including those within a clean pocket. Wilson is going to have to reel it in at times and stay disciplined in his technique and fundamentals, which definitely need work.

Eh, that seems like nitpicking a bit to me.. just because he has shown the ability to throw accurately off target doesnt mean hes going to be doing it consistently. That's like saying just because Fields is mobile hes going to bail every chance he gets.

Both quarterbacks have shown otherwise... what makes them special is their ability to be special when things break down.. unless you can show me film of Wilson running around in circles in the pocket for no reason I wouldn't question his technique.

This isn't what I'm talking about. Reread my post--off-platform and from unorthodox positions and arm slots.

Sam Darnold is the perfect example of this. He consistently throws at the top of his drop with his hips squared to the target while stepping 90 degrees to his throw from a 3 o'clock arm slot. I had this perfect gif that I used to post in the USC Sam Darnold thread that encapsulated this. Unfortunately, I can't find it.

Fair enough.. I'll have to look at Wilson some more later then. Haskins was another one with 10 different throwing angles who would release randomly on his dropbacks... combine that with s**tty footwork and you get what you got.

It's not a sure fire thing that the Jets will take him. But that being said, when you trade up to the #3 spot, you need a backup plan.

I think Wilson is their top option, and I hope he drops.
Get him!

nope... Saleh is giving us a solid on this one

Nope.

More likely we tried to do a deal with Joe Douglas for #2. Jets were firm in not having interest in moving off the pick which tells us Wilson is likely their guy. We moved up to secure one of the remaining 3 whom Kyle also sees as a FQB.

Yeah, as much as I would like to believe Saleh is doing us a solid, the reality is the Jets are his team now. Why he want to help another team out when he can set this team up for next decade with Wilson. Would love SF to get Wilson, but it ain't happening. Not going to help Shanny at his own expense, makes no sense. It's the NFL.

I think now fasho we have to do whatever it takes to get Wilson. Fields would be good too but Wilson can start week 1 for us. We gotta try and see if we could trade jimmy and our 2nd for New Englands 15 too.
I believe it will be Zach Wilson. He is the perfect fit for Shanahan's offense. Who knows what kind of deal they cooked up with Saleh and the Jets
