safe to call him a bust at this point? does anyone think this kid is going to lead his team to a super bowl one day.
No one in this forum at the beginning of the season would have said that Gardner Minshew as a backup QB would outplay him and beat him in a game.

you are joking right?

To early to call him a bust but just right to call him a disappointment.

I think even that is premature. He is a rookie on a bad team with completely new coaching staff. This is what happens to even the best rookie QBs in their first year. There is too much talent there to make a negative assessment now.

You can't ignore the results or lack there of so far IMO.

As I said, the results are consistent with the situation - it is what it is.
Yeah, I wouldn't judge any of the rookies, yet. I feel Lawrence, Wilson and Fields in particular were dealt really s**tty hands.

Agree, tho I do think if we got Lawrence or Wilson they'd be starting and killing it in our system and jimmy traded before the season

you really can't ignore it at the end of the day. he looks awful guys. Flat out missing easy checkdowns multiple times a game and throwing multiple picks a game (4 against the pats some of which were beyond WTF throws). His athleticism really isn't translating at the NFL level where everyone is faster. He's slight of build making him much more injury prone (already out multiple weeks with a knee injury). Most importantly decision making is very poor and I don't see that changing anytime soon (loves big play hero ball stuff way too much and fails to convert most of the time).

They'd be sitting on the bench no differently. Jimmy had low-value preseason. He's increased that value some here this season and will fetch a 2nd in compensation imo which is exactly what John and Kyle planned. There was 0 scenario where Shanahan was going through this season with a rookie. He wants the rookie to learn the playbook and the theory before applying it on the field. Shanahan's offense is complex and being the kind of guy he is, I very seriously doubt he'd welcome the scenario of starting a rookie.

Well no turnovers today, no TD's either. Took 42 passes to get 202 yards completing only 45% of them.

Too early to close the book, but he does look the most bust-worthy of the big 5
This is a good article on the struggles of the Jets and Wilson specifically.

What's interesting is both Shanny's Niners and Saleh's Jets have put themselves in somewhat unenviable positions. Not the exact same situation and we believe/hope that given time and better players around him that Lance will pan out.

But both teams took big swings on potential busts at QB. And I get that every player practically is a potential bust the higher he's drafted.

But Wilson, not one year as a starter, but one year of really attention getting put yourself in first round of the NFL draft conversation as a starter. It's still all in all a relatively small sample size versus some of the other quarterbacks. Even a guy like Kellen Mond from Texas A&M who has great talent and had a lot of experience and seemed to get progressively better, there's more to properly evaluate and project. Now Mond may always be a backup in the league. Don't know.

Wilson had one actual stellar year in college. He did it at a very respectable program in BYU but he also did it against a second tier or whatever slate of teams for the most part. Some teams not even probably second tier.

Lance, well the risk there is obvious. Literally one year as a starter at a FCS power but FCS school and essentially an entire year off after that one year of starting.

Again, hopefully it works out for us. Just as a person to another, hope it works out for Wilson too. But I am not surprised that up to this point he hasn't matched the hype. Teams continue to take big swings at QB's with one year of starting experience or one year of NFL level production and a lot of times it comes back to bite them.

I guess New England did that too. But they took a lower ceiling QB who played in the top program in the country right now and sat/learned behind other NFL starting QB's. Neither Jalen Hurts or Tua look like Hall of Fame players or even Pro Bowl players but they are at least starting in the NFL right now. Trey has had some of that to a lesser degree.

Wilson, comes out of nowhere to explode on to the draft radar and struggles. Not a tremendous surprise.
Zach Wilson runs for touchdowns.

HA bro is pulling a Finch from American Pie. I got to see what this cougar looks like....
