It sucks for us, every year there's true franchise QBs available we're too far back but if we have a high pick there's not a sure fire franchise QB, well unless you count 2005

Niners got no room to talk. We had a shot at taking Mahomes or Watson but our staff completely over looked them because all the "experts" said it was a weak draft class for QBs.

Worst case scenario? I'd say picking at 15, so many worse teams than us even with all our injuries. In any scenario, I see us having to trade up with someone for a shot at Wilson, into the top 5, 3rd overall to be sure.

And the odds are that no one who needs a QB will be willing to trade out of the Top 5 and a team that already has a QB will likely still be able to get a decent deal from someone picking Top 10.
If we draft Zach Wilson I'll give everyone who responds to this a dollar.

Yup agree with this unfortunately. But that's why I need your draft voodoo come draft day brother and not for Jones or Trask

Man, I just know I am just going to spend all season getting my hopes up for this kid just like I did Mahomes.

Yup.

Let's hope that Alex Smith balls out the rest of the year. I forgot he is only in year 2 of a 5 year deal with Washington, and they did trade picks for him IIRC.

OOF there I go giving myself hope again...

Alex playing on a leg rebuilt from other parts of him...they're going QB regardless of how he plays imo.
Unless we lose out .. I don't see us trading up that far to get him. We don't have a lot of draft capital to work with and I feel we will wind up in the middle out of the top 10.
A lot can happen, no doubt. But I feel in order to get him a massive trade up will be needed

I'll take that all day long.

Keep Jimmy (unless can trade for a high 2nd and guarantee landing Wilson) and light a fire under his arse and if performance is lacking at all next year, he is on a short leash and pull him.

I think he looks like what Jimmy is supposed to look like. He can make those in traffic short throws Jimmy does well at, but he can also actually throw down the field with accuracy on a regular basis.

I'm one of those guys who feel like for a franchise QB you ought to do it. Have there been many recent failures on this? I can't consider Goff a failure, and certainly not Mahomes.

I feel like Mahomes was a surefire franchise QB. What was the weakness in college besides the scheme, which he transcended anyway? Gambling, but that's it.

I don't know about all that.

And there are no guarantees ZW is still there even if you only moved back a couple of spots.

Outside of the scheme stuff, Mahomes' biggest issues were mechanics, s**tty footwork(his footwork was PUTRID), reading coverages, and recklessness with decisions.

It doesn't matter where the Niners ended up picking at. If he's the guy you'd trade up to get him no matter what. I don't see KC missing those 3rd and (2018) 1st they gave up to move from #27 to #10 for Mahomes because it was worth it. Just gotta make sure he's "THE GUY" or the team will be held back for a couple of years.

Mahomes really wasn't talked about much as a first rounder this time that year iirc. Everyone knew he was a super talented kid with a huge arm but if I recall he didn't really enter the first round talk until late in the process.

Mechanics, maybe, but if the ball gets there it gets there, IMHO. Reading coverages I disagree with -- he just often chose to throw where mortals would never dare.

But it is what it is. Lots of people bought the traditional narrative and didn't trust what their eyes were showing them, and the Chiefs ended up getting the next GOAT because they did trust what their eyes were showing them. Water under the bridge now at this point though.

Sadly I think Wilson is going to be gone by the third pick.
