On a bum ankle, no less!

I went back to look at some of the punt return snaps from week 17, 18, and DAL. None of the reps that I saw had Willis lined up over the long snapper.
The GB long snapper is 6'4 228 pounds
Willis is 6'4 270 pounds. That's a mismatch. Hightower schemed this up and told Willis to bull rush. This is why some longsnappers are tight ends, to have some bulk and be a natural blocker, be around 250 pounds. 228 pounds ain't it.

So Hightower can actually scheme. Fascinating.

Maybe he can be a good coach after all!

He had Deebo "Mr. Everything" Samuel on that long kick return.

Definitely need to address this offseason...

Among other things
Willis also was the guy who sprung Ward loose for the FG block.

Man handle his block and handed the Packers a 6pts turn over. He had a hand in that win for sure.

Doubt it. Probably Willis begging him to give it a shot. I really hope the GB game doesnt save this guys career here. 1 week shouldnt erase 18 weeks of horrible ST play.
Just saw a media interview with Willis who said the reason he didn't talk to the press after the Green Bay game was that he didn't want to take the attention away from the team and all of the guys who have had ti step up during the course of the season to get them where they are right now. There is a clip of Kyle giving him the game ball after the GB win and even then he was incredibly humble about it. I thought that was great. Made me like him a lot.

Yes. Another really excellent off season pick up for Lynch & Co.

Agree, but I'd do it via free agency vs doing it via the draft. I think Make-a-wish is a solid punter, and Gould looks like he can play one more year. Although the draft nerds were making noise early in the season about a talented kicker in this years draft, I think there may be some FA kickers available to try out in pre-season.

Bigger issue is KR and PR positions. That probably will be done via draft. Love to have a KR/PR guy that can double as Treys deep ball target.
"For me, personally, I just didn't want to be taking all the praise for a team effort," Willis said. "This whole year has been such ups and downs for the team, so even though in that moment I was graced with the opportunity to block the punt, I don't want that to go down as that's the reason why we are sitting where we are. A lot of people have persevered to get here, and all the work the coaches put in night and night out, week in and week out, all the criticism Coach Shanahan's taken, all the criticism Jimmy Garoppolo's taken, all the criticism some of our top players on defense have taken, and they've all worked hard to dig us up out of this mess. I just didn't want to be just one play to be a defining moment for all the hard work this whole organization to be where we are."

"I do understand that this was a huge play," Willis said. "I'm very grateful that I had the opportunity to be in there and execute what the coaches asked of me. But I didn't want to take a ton of credit for it because Coach Hightower made the call. I just was the lucky guy that was able to execute what I was asked to do."
He's an example of why good character is very high on the list for JL and KS. Bravo young man.

they must have wanted him in the 2017 draft. They took Ahkello in the 3rd though....
