He's not wrong, but the timeline of tolerance is going to be compressed based on who the pick is. If it's Jones, and he starts the season and doesn't play well initially, the fans aren't going to have patience and the negativity will begin to seep into the locker room.

If there are fans on opening week, prepare for the "we want Sudfield!" Or "we want Rosen!" chants if Jones throws a pick.

Jones is not going to get the benefit of the doubt that most rookie QBs taken that high would get.

This is true

instant intense pressure to be great

They have added pressure. I was ok with the Solomon Thomas pick and hoped he would develop but it is clearly a failure now. Fans already hold that against them and now if they mess up this pick the amount of capital lost is probably close to 2 #2 picks and fans won't forget or go easy on them about the whole trust thing and the future.

Meh. I'm now officially on the Jones bandwagon. He'll be fine with Kyle.

To the guys that are obsessed with his gut—you're a strange bunch lol

Fine? Something to aspire to: Average. Mediocre. 3 first rounders average? Swell.

Well since we haven't seen his career play out no one knows if he will be average

So the 49ers are potentially not drafting the QB they wanted to draft because they want someone who is more pro ready? Do they think we're stupid?

And if they trade out Jimmy for a rookie, good luck selling that to that locker room.

"If the Niners end up taking Mac Jones over Trey Lance, which is the way it looks as of right now, it's because of what they could not accomplish during the offseason," wrote Pauline. "The team really wanted to sign a veteran quarterback and went hard after Andy Dalton as well as Joe Flacco.

"The game plan was then to trade Jimmy Garoppolo, likely to the Patriots, draft Lance, and let him sit for most of the season. The inability to sign Dalton or Flacco put them in a bind and now makes taking a quarterback who's more NFL-ready a priority."

- Tony Pauline

Na that's dumb af logic. If Kyle really thinks like that then he should be fired. Pick the right guy, not the pro ready guy. This isn't a move to make for a season, its for a decade.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was Lynch and Peters sniffing around while trying to convince Shanny to be open-minded.

From the outside, it seems like the 49ers front office wants one of these sweet, new-age toolsy mobile QBs while Shanny still prefers a classic pocket passer.

Well maybe he should start listening to them, instead of passing up on Mahomes for Kirk and Beathard.

If Jones is the pick he's really gonna have to invest in PP OL, not picking up McG 5th yr option and throwing Joe blow at RG

I think he is listening to them. I really hope he sees Lance or Fields as the Brees/Jackson type you covet. It just makes sense to draft a playmaking QB that is a pocket passer first that can also beat you with your legs. We need a playmaking QB that gives nightmares to defenses in the redzone that can beat them in multiple ways when things get tighter. They can also threaten defenses more on short yardage situations that keep the chains moving. Those 2 things are huge in winning football games aside from turnovers. Couple all that with Kyles play calling and it will be almost unstoppable. They just give you what Mac does and much more I dont know why people cant see it. As Mel Kiper says you have to project what the player will be when he talks about Fields and i think he can be all of the above as well as Lance. At the end of the day we just need a game changing playmaker at QB to get us over the top plain and simple.

Yup. 50% of being right. And for what they gave up, needs to be Brees/Manning. It is what it is.

Should we really set our bar that low that the prospect is better than the QBs the 49ers have? I want a guy with potential to be in discussions with Rodgers, Mahomes, Watson, Burrow, Herbert and Allen.

Right?!

I'd bet money kyle would take Tua over Herbert too.
I just don't get how you can constantly get beat by
QBs that can move and extend plays, kick the s**t out of the Jared Goffs of the world...watch two Super Bowls go up in flames in part because your QBs couldn't move to make a play, THEN go back to the well & grab the SAME f**king thing lol? PLUS massively overspend on it? WTF.

all this gibberish about evolving and wanted that Mahomes like prospect was just a load of s**t. Kyle hasn't changed and the outcome will be the same.

I don't know if it's completely gibberish. The way I read this is that Kyle would be cool with it if a QB has scrambling ability, he just doesn't want it to be such a dominant feature that he has to scheme RPO's and designed runs for him to be productive. If he views a particular QB's mobility as coming at the expense of being a highly developed passer he probably won't go for him. Personally, I think Fields fits the bill of a guy who's running ability doesn't come at the expense of passing skill, but that's just me.

Yeah, that's too bad esp. in a Kyle playbook. He's still going to need time...2 years minimum and that's on a fast track. 3+ is more realistic.

But, tis the new insta-world.

Same reason we should not have started Alex. Best to keep the rookie on the bench for a year.

It a darn good reason to keep Jimmy
In three years this front office has completely rebuilt the roster into one of the best in the league. But , yeah, lets question the smarts of these guys because some fans think they're being stupid. LOL Whoever the pick is, I believe in this coaching staff to do what's best for the team. Go Niners!

Not if you're the most NFL-ready prospect ever and MENSA of QBs. That mutherf**ker starts day one. Sorry comes with the praise and hyperbole laid on McAverage

Plus, you're trading Jimmy, no other option. He'll be fine, he's a super processor.
