Kyle Shanahan has final say. It's written in his contract. I remember this because it was one of Jed's selling points to lure Shanahan here.

What they said at the time was that Lynch had final say of the 90, and Kyle had final say of the 53. That means Lynch builds the team, and Kyle makes the cuts and decides the keepers.

That said, like I said, Lynch knows there is No Way he can not defer to Kyle on the quarterback position without ruining their relationship. Kyle is calling in the plays to that guy.

Yep.

Yeah, my eyes must deceive me because Mac Jones, based on the numbers in front of me, is the better athlete than Patrick Mahomes.

40 time isn't the end all of athleticism. Solomon Thomas and a better 40 time while weighing more than Nick Bosa.

I know, I was being sarcastic. Agility is much more important for a QB than straight line speed.

Nah, I vividly remember someone(maybe Maiocco) reporting that Kyle has final say on QBs.

Mike Lombardi mentioned it a month ago: "I'm going to be very clear here. Kyle is going to make this pick. It's in his contract. It's not a question of whether he's going to do it by his personality. The Shanahans run the 49ers. Lynch is there to do what he's told to do."

@3:02 This video is about a month old, but Lombardi may have been the first person to report the divide in the 49ers organization.

It think it goes 1) John Lynch has the draft 2) Kyle has the 53+ man roster and 3) they each have veto power over the other guys choices - so really nothing gets done unless both are in agreement. Or so I think - in practice - that's how it's looking. When John basically deferred the QB decision to Kyle, I think it goes more to common sense than any contract right.

I think it goes 1) John Lynch has the draft, trades, and free agency, 2)Kyle has the 53 man roster, and 3) I expect you guys to work together and get along.

Very interesting discussion, it's not going to make the "anyone but Jones" fans any happier, but interesting nonetheless.

Here, Pollack speculates that the 49ers want Jones, but this whole deep dive on Lance/Fields is CYA so if they pass on them and they become stars, they can say, "Hey we really liked them! It was close, but ultimately decided #10 was the best fit."

Let's get real.

McVay said Goof can't do progressions, and he wanted Matt Stanford. The Rams went out and made it happen.

Kyle (presumably plus) wants Mac Jones. We just gave Kyle a contract extension. Lynch has final say. What do we do?

If you say no, and draft Lance or anybody else, after every loss, it's "well, he can't do what I asked. It's not My fault. I Told You So. It's Your fault."

The Shanahans were forced out of Washington because they didn't want to play RGIII (whom they made Rookie of the Year, with an offense they Knew couldn't take them far), and Did want to play a 4th round Cousins.

Kyle begged for permission to get out of his contract early to leave Cleveland, when they drafted Johnny Football Manziel. He got it.

Kyle Shanahan is GONE if you force a player on him that can't run his offense.

I know, there are M A N Y fools on this board with the hubris to value Their Pick at quarterback over retaining the smartest coach in the league. Do that, and we ain't Never seeing a Lombardi again in decades. Kyle made RGIII Rookie of the year, and Matt Ryan the NFL Offensive Player of the Year and the Most Valuable Player, and he took this horrible crappy team to the Super Bowl in his third year, and I'll lay odds he'll make Mac Jones Rookie of the Year this year. But NO. You guys know best.

"Beam me up, Scotty. There is no intelligent life down here."

I can't wait to start picking apart this league with Intelligence. That's how we got the first 5 Lombardi's, and it's how we'll get the next 5. Or not.

This is a lot of Kool-aid sipping.

I respect KS, I think you may be right that he's the smartest HC. But you know what, he's not above reproach. He fell short in 2 superbowls now. He's had 3/4 losing seasons as HC. It is not inarguable that it is he who needs to adapt, not the players.

Also if you want to get real, the words out of his mouth is that there are 5, count that FIVE, QBs he has evaluated as NFL Starting QB caliber. So, unless you're saying he's lying, making him draft Fields or Lance who are presumably within those 5 is not forcing him to take a QB he doesn't think can run this offense.

He could have easily said there's 3 guys who he thinks can get it done and therefore at 3 only 1 is left so if you make him take anyone else its not on him, but he said 5. There's presumably gonna be 3/5 of those left when SF is called to the podium so that kind of invalidates the argument we'd be forcing him out if someone could make him not take Mac but take one of the other 5 who he also believes is a starting QB.

C'Mon man, Lombardi is trash. Take anything he says with a grain of salt.

Lombardi did say that. It's not what the team said at the time. I think he's wrong. And I don't think Maiocco ever said that at all.

Not the point. In any case, my point I was making is that if you force a quarterback on Kyle he doesn't want, and deny one he does, he will not stay. Do you disagree?

I do believe this is true, however, in the press conference yesterday I swear Lynch made a comment like "the draft is mine" and then said he will always DEFER to Kyle with the QB position. That comment kind of caught me by suprise

What other character issues did he have beyond a DUI as a freshman?

Dressing up as Obama with dreadlocks? Frat boy attitude? Certainly not issues to take him off the board as I know what it's like to be a 20 year old moron, but Lance at the same age has displayed next level maturity and intelligence.

How do we go from seeing a tweet his sister posted and tagged him in to inferring he is in the costume?

Maybe I missed more info coming out on that but last I knew all we did know was that she posted it. We don't know if she took the photo or if she found it online. We don't know if someone is even in the costume or if it is stuffed.

Let's not just fabricate our own context without evidence unless I missed something.
