To me that was a subtle way of addressing people questioning why trade up to 3 if you're going to take a guy that might be available at 12....kinda screamed like a defense of taking Mac Jones at 3 to me.

I could be wrong. We'll find out tomorrow.

Agree. I read it the same way.
So Eric Davis is pretty well connected. He said Kyle's #1 advisor is not John Lynch but Mike Shanahan and they both love Mac Jones. He had a couple very close "sources" he claims to trust greatly, tell him that.

That's how Mike Shanahan got fired - by making bad decisions after bad decisions - and that's how he will get his son fired.

People keep repeating why they don't like Mac. Here are my thoughts to get them in.

We saw in the fall Peters only went to see Mac and Wilson. After that, I watched all of their games. Mac's stock kept rising as the year went on as he got settled and the offense expanded. He moved from a late 1st up to the teens. Then he won the championship. I saw people putting him the the top ten in mocks.
Then he goes to the senior bowl and people are impressed. You hear how much Carolina likes him.
NE and NO are good matches too and you can't count out Chicago and Wash. There was also a chance Atlanta or Detroit go QB.
We trade to get above Carolina who was looking at moving up too. They were also looking into people like Darnold and Watson.
We were worried going to 5 or 6 that someone else would jump ahead of us still. It's come out that other coaches and GM's think highly of Mac.
Of course we like all 5 QB's. Only Mac is the one Kyle loves and a perfect fit with what he wants in a QB.
There was the story about Carolina's GM getting a text at a pro day that the trade went down and showed it to Peters who smiled knowing they controlled the 3rd QB and jumped Carolina.
Yes, the other two are good QB picks and would do OK here. They aren't what Kyle wants. He doesn't like off schedule play. He wants his system executed and has built in answers on a play for a QB.

People keep bringing up Mac not having the strongest arm and not being fit. He will improve and get in better shape once in the NFL just like Brady did. People insist the others can improve their accuracy, reads, and decision making.
You might get some improvements there but not to the level Kyle will want. We were still waiting for Jimmy to throw on time in this offense. Dak hasn't improved enough yet.

I'd love an athletic QB like Mahomes which is why I wanted Wilson. You have to hope the pocket skills that Kyle wants are at a high level also. It goes along with what Kurt Warner said with the athletic guys struggle in the playoffs when a defense shuts them down. Give me a QB that can pick apart a D like Brady or Brees still. Any athleticism is a bonus.
I had said before that with the other choices to expect them to win the Pro Bowl at some point. With Mac, it's the SB.
I see someone like Fields going to a team like Denver with a defensive head coach. I'd want a star QB for that side of the ball. Our star is Kyle. The big issue is that star QB will want 50mil in 5 years. Mac should just be a piece of the offense and allow us to keep the rest of the team together.
Peter King said Mac will be what Kyle wants in being a coach on the field. What a combination they will be together. Then even though i love the Gut, I think we take Dalman C in the 3rd to complete the braintrust. They talk about what Mack brings on the mental side of playing center and I think Dalman will be that guy in the future.
It should be Mac and like Shein says, he has a good chance to be ROTY.

That outlook is a bit too rosy for my tate. It would be great if it were to happen, but I prefer to just let things play out whoever the pick is. On a side note. I didn't realize this until I read that, but we could have Mack snapping the ball to Mac . The fix is in I guess.

Kyle Trask put up similar numbers against an all SEC schedule as well. The SEC isn't known for defense anymore.

Trask completed 68% of his passes...he also lost 3 games against those SEC teams.

What does this prove? I'll say Jones is better than Trask but I don't understand why your bringing up wins and loses.

OP said the SEC isn't known for defenses anymore....I don't agree.

His three SEC losses:
Alabama 52, Florida 46
LSU 37, Florida 34
Texas A&M 41, Florida 38

You're right. That is some amazing defense.

He actually misspoke. What he meant to say was:

"If you were excited about getting the worst one of these guys at 12, you should be excited about getting the worst one at three. It's about whether you get the worst one."

Gonna be fun around here.

If Mac is the pick I will give him a chance because I do think Shanahan can get the most out of him.

That having been said, we are missing some great potential in the "McPorkle" nickname here
