Mac Jones to the 49ers (if it happens) was one of the worst kept secrets ever.

Once they moved up to #3, they really didn't have to keep any secrets. Nothing any other team could do to trade up past the 49ers to #2 or #1 in my opinion. Because I think the reason why the knew this, is because they - themselves tried to go to Pick 1 and/or Pick 2 - and couldn't. Nobody is going to offer more than the 49ers to move up to #2 or #1 (three first round picks plus a 3rd?). Nobody.

One thing you can't say about Jones is that his teammates and coaches aren't behind him all the way. Guys didn't hesitate when asked whether they preferred Tua or Jones. He seems to be well liked and admired by everyone within the program. The only reason Mac Jones didn't get kicked off the team after his DUI was because a whole bunch of his teammates went all Rudy on Saban to keep him around.

Guys like him, he's easily coachable, is that enough? No, but its a significant difference from Rosen who always seemed to have a massive ego and was standoffish at best.

Nobody truly knows what's going on between the ears of these guys. But I'm also not sure what to take from those quotes. We've heard these nameless executives and scouts say that crap about prospects all the time leading up to the draft. It's not always true.

I found it more interesting that Chris Simms praised Rosen in the way that he did and how similar it is to how he's currently praising Jones. We know that Simms and Shanahan basically share everything and are of one mind on QBs, so it makes me wonder what if Rosen was coming out this year. Would Kyle trade 2 first rounders to move up and get him? I guess we'll find out for certain tomorrow, but I believe that he would. Would Rosen have succeeded under Kyle? He'd be better, but ultimately probably not.

I agree with the Lamar sentiment, and I absolutely do not want a RUNNING quarterback. I don't think anyone does. I want a quarterback who can rip it from the pocket and can RUN/threaten to run when needed. I just think lance/fields opens the field and play book sooo much more than Mac. The more I read/watch today the more I believe it was one of those tw all along. I am a niner fan I'll cheer hard for whoever we take. Though I'll be let down if we traded two firsts for Mac.

Personally, I think between the three QB's, it's a question of preference and style. I think they are all so even talent-wise, in different ways, but ultimately even. (i.e. one is better in the pocket, one or two is better as an athlete - but taken together - they come up even). All three can run Kyle's system, but all three have their flaws where I think style and preference begin to matter.

I just think Kyle prefers Light Red (Mac) vs Green (Trey) and (for lack of a better analogy) Dark red (Fields) - in other words, it may have come down to things *other than* physical talent and intangibles, but more towards what Kyle wants in terms of what he's comfortable with in the past. He likes the Kirk Cousins/Ryan/Garoppolo model because he's had success there vs the RGIII model better (again for his own reasons - whatever they are).

We have to remember those assessments are made in a vacuum at that time. Post pick, all hell could brake loose depending on where they go, if the money goes to their head, etc. and a 100 other factors that we're not privy too. That doesn't mean the assessment wasn't right at that moment in time though.
