As a QB you can be an a*****e or kind of douchey even(see Mayfield) but you can't be a guy that your own teammates and coaches are lukewarm on, that speaks volumes. If you have to complain to the media about why nobody likes you or when you're drafted you have to promise that you won't be an a*****e and act like your s**t doesn't stink, that shows there's an issue there.

One thing you can't say about Jones is that his teammates and coaches aren't behind him all the way. Guys didn't hesitate when asked whether they preferred Tua or Jones. He seems to be well liked and admired by everyone within the program. The only reason Mac Jones didn't get kicked off the team after his DUI was because a whole bunch of his teammates went all Rudy on Saban to keep him around.

Guys like him, he's easily coachable, is that enough? No, but its a significant difference from Rosen who always seemed to have a massive ego and was standoffish at best.

Any evidence the only reason he wasn't kicked off the team was his teammates rallying around him?

Teammates saying they thought Jones was a better QB than Tua after Tua has already been drafted literally means nothing. Just like the Bosas saying Nick is better than Joey before his draft, or that Seth is a better shooter than Steph. People close to two people in a situation like that are always going to use it to hype up the one about to be drafted. Do you really think Lavar thought that Liangelo was actually better than Lonzo?

Mac Jones would be such a disappointment initially, BUT if he pans out as an elite pocket passer who cares. I think he has a fair amount of red flags, but you never know. I just hope they nail the pick regardless. I'm worried about Kyle's arrogance where he goes his own way despite what ppl think. He might try to ram through the pick, but hopefully the scouts and front office are heavily involved in the pick and it's not just Kyle doing whatever the hell he wants.
LOL.

The anything-but-Jimmy (and pro-Jimmy) crowd has formally united as the anything-but-Mac crowd together in unity.

That's a mocked up image in a niner uni. He is actually running in a crimson tide uni. Just in case you thought he never left the pocket.

Once they moved up to #3, they really didn't have to keep any secrets. Nothing any other team could do to trade up past the 49ers to #2 or #1 in my opinion. Because I think the reason why the knew this, is because they - themselves tried to go to Pick 1 and/or Pick 2 - and couldn't. Nobody is going to offer more than the 49ers to move up to #2 or #1 (three first round picks plus a 3rd?). Nobody.

I think there are plenty of reasons to keep secrets.

You have to consider that there are a ton of connections to the Jets. If your hypothetical board looks like Lawrence, Fields, Lance, Wilson and you start hyping up Fields as the pick and making things public, you may be tempting the Jets to reconsider their selection. They want to run the same offense and if big brother is thinking a certain way they are going to reexplore that as well. Tipping your hand could also let Atlanta and the Jets work a deal to swap picks, allowing the Jets to draft Wilson at 4 (and collecting more picks), and the Falcons to take Fields at 2. Or could be a 3 team trade with someone else coming in to move to 2. Thing back to the 2017 draft where we knew Chicago's play and could threaten to move the pick unless we were compensated. You dont want to give up any leverage to other teams. They will exploit you.

You also dont want teams to behind you to be given time to pre plan moves and trades. Right now the draft really starts with SF and you want to keep it that way. Making your pick public lessens the chaos. Then we know what QBs are available at 4. Teams have more authority to really start working on deals with Atlanta, Cinci, Miami, Carolina, etc. You dont want to empower anybody. Keep the draft chaotic and make them do all their homework and prepare for all possible avenues.

Yup. Instead of asking, "why do they have to hide anything?", ask, "why should they reveal anything?"
