Mac Jones-QB-Jaguars

He looked okay. You can tell he is gonna get in trouble as a rookie with the lack of drive on the ball and some inaccuracy issues but some nice touch on those deep throws. Once he gets a year's worth of experience and some timing issues down he could at least be Andy Dalton. But man... compared to Lance and even JG, his passes looked like they flew in slow motion.

Yeah just watch every one of his throws, overall he didn't look lost which is a good start. His lack of velocity is still pretty noticeable. He had a clean pocket on damn near all his throws and when he has pressure for the most part it wasn't good. I see nothing special.

Didn't push the ball downfield much. Safe plays and I'm sure that was part of the plan.

kinda looked like the guy I would expect. Andy Daltonish. I agree there.

I don't know maybe he turns into Brady lol, but I would rather just keep Jimmy then go get Mac if that's the type of QB they were looking for…glad that wasn't the case.
End of the day hard fo gauge anything from 19 passing attempts in his 1st preseason…saw someone under center PA which is nice, didn't do that much at Bama. He knew where to go with the ball & didn't look lost. Same issues I had with him were there, arm talent and lack of play making ability when pressure was applied.

will be interesting to see how all these dudes careers go

This throw was short. WR had to adjust, which gave the DB a chance to get his hand in and break it up. He should have placed it deeper into the EZ.

He looked exactly like he did at Bama just without being surrounded by 1st round picks on offense.

Didn't look great. Lots of throws that were short or slightly behind receivers.

If people were impressed by this, Trey might actually make their brains explode on Saturday night.
This thread will never die will it

Throw wasn't short and the WR didn't have to adjust. If it were deeper in the endzone the wr wouldn't have gotten there and it's an over throw. It was good a pass but better coverage from the DB

Overall he reminds me of Chad Pennington. i think he'll be an average starter

Correct. This is what you expect to find in the mid 1st to 2nd round at QB: accurate with average physical skills (Mac) or inaccurate with some possible elite physical skills and you're gambling you can fix it.

You do NOT take a player like this at 3 or even top 10. Glad we didn't go that route

Agreed
Here's my unprofessional, broadcast view breakdown of Mac's first game:

1st throw, guy in his face, throws the ball short, incomplete (replays showed it was probably complete, but still not a good throw)
2nd throw, clean pocket, throws to near sideline, low but complete
3rd throw, cleanest pocket you'll ever see. receiver wide open across the field, doesn't lead him, no YAC
4th throw, the End Zone ball
5th throw, no pressure, misses on a 3 yard slant
6th throw, barely pressure, 3 yard dump off (had a TE in the flat wide open)
7th throw, a little pressure, 2 yard dump off
8th throw, no pressure, FB in the flat, pass is short and almost at his feet, but made a great play to come up with it
9th throw, no pressure, 2 yard dump off to rb
10th throw, little pressure, hits crossing receiver at the LOS, led the guy at least
11th throw, no pressure, hits a 3 yd out route
12th throw, quick WR bubble screen
13th throw, no pressure, 5 yd pass to the back over the middle
14th throw, hand in his face, hits WR on a comeback, throw is not very accurate
15th throw, screen pass
16th throw, another bubble screen
17th throw, has pressure, throws ball into the turf
18th throw, pressured, WR has to dive for the comeback, incomplete, probably should have been caught
sacked on next play
19th throw, not much pressure, over throw on a 40 yard pass

He couldn't have placed the ball better had he walked down the field and straight up handed it to the receiver. If Deebo or Aiyuk don't bring that ball in, people are losing their minds. It was a drop, plain and simple.

Either you don't know what throwing short means or you're blind.

I can tell fans are going to be real emotional watching Mac Jones.

I agree, that ball was short and is completed if pushed toward the back of the endzone.

Or if he had thrown it sooner.
