His pocket manipulation at this age is what the greats have. Evading rushers without ever taking his eyes from downfield. There are a looooot of people bout to look ignorant in this thread.

We'll see in two years but right now Mac is definitely looking better than Lance. The pocket presence and accuracy look much better. Looks like he has good arm strength compared to what people were saying.

If somehow Lance cannot develop these traits, then I can see someone getting canned in two years. It will be such a huge mistake to miss on Lance because it will set us back years.

Correct.
And the "lack of arm strength" and upside talk came from people who don't necessarily know the game as much as they think they do. Those folks are usually enamored by loud tools such as a big arm and rubbing ability. The truth is that those are positives, but if you want to be great you have to be elite from the pocket. That's where the vast majority of your action is at

While that is true, you can learn and develop to be great in the pocket. Mac will never learn nor develop an arm or running ability that Trey has and everyone has yet to see. Russell Wilson and Mahomes make a lliving outside of the pocket and I'd consider both of them elite.

We have gone over this before. Literally every QB who has ever played in the nfl can make that throw. The question is how consistently can you do it. Most cannot do it consistently. If Mac (or any other QB) can, he will be good. If Mac (or any other QB) can't, he won't be a starter at all or for long in this league

Nah. Cam will start.

Then Brady and the Buccs will embarrass the Patriots on October 3rd. I'm sure Cam will get blamed and Belichick will be forced to make a change.

Mac will get the soft Texans the week afterwards to ease him in.
Looks pretty good. But holy s**t a lot of crowing in here after 2 preseason games lol

Why not? Brady's arm strength has improved over his career, due to strength training & better mechanics. No reason why Mac can't do the same.

He looked terrific tonight. So much to like about his game.
Again he looked like we thought he would. Showed off some touch on his deep ball, made some good line drives... but he also underthrew allot of balls that his receivers had to scoop up to catch.

But also lets not get ahead of ourselves... While watching the game all I could think was "Damn imagine if our QBs had that much time in the pocket." He had all day to wait for his receivers to get open against some pretty soft zone coverages. Give Lance that same amount of time to throw against a soft zone and he'd look pretty damn good too.

Are you surprised J Edgar? I'm not.

You should read what I wrote again. Didn't say his arm strength can't improve, I said he will never have the arm that Trey does. Guess who else's arm will improve, the guy who just turned 21 and is also in professional strength and mechanics training. But to your other point, absolutely Mac looked terrific. I said it early in Macs draft thread that he had the best pocket presence (manipulation/movement) of the entire class, also said he had one of the best college seasons that I've ever seen from a QB. That said, I was in the anyone but Mac club because I do think he had the lowest ceiling of the QBs we had available and when you trade the farm like we did and pick that high, I do believe you gotta take that risk and go for the higher ceiling guy. People fapping over Mac and questioning Trey right now gotta keep in mind that Mac was always going to look good in the pocket, that's his game, it's what he's best at, it's also all he's got. Treys game has yet to be unlocked and seen, when he's able to/or does start moving around and scrambling for some yards, that's when it's fair to evaluate them against each other and what they bring to each offense.

I've mentioned the same leading up to the draft. Tom Brady arm strength improved over time. No reason Macs arm can't get better with age. Mac is never going to have an arm like Mahomes or Allen, like Brady's arm wasn't ever at Rodgers level but it was more than enough.

Mac will need to compensate with anticipation, accuracy, and pre snap reads, which to date he has shown he is capable of. Manning won an MVP and broke records with a noodle arm. I'm not saying Mac is Manning, it is only to show that there are other ways to get it done than pure arm strength.

I think it it was wrong to write him off as a bust and trash simply due to arm strength. There are other aspects to QB than just arm strength and running ability. That's been my argument whole time.

And up until now Mac has shown he same qualities he has shown at Alabama even without those stellar weapons everyone credited for his success. As a matter a fact, Patriots probably have the worst supporting cast sans TEs in the NFL .

Everything can change quickly, so I won't get too ahead of myself but as of now, he is showing that he was a worth a 1st rd pick. Some poster suggested that he shouldn't be touched before he 4th rd.

Haha. I just noticed that photo in my profile. I liked it so much I decided to keep it

This sounds about right
Alot of crowning for a guy who doesn't have a TD pass yet. Trey had a better QB rating vs the Chiefs than Mac had in either of his games

Still looks "meh" to me.
