He certainly looked good, but the Eagles really suck. He did what he should have. I'll admit he should have a bunch more yards but Harry dropped a perfectly thrown deep ball. The Eagles starting D is trash. Think about their backups? They're poopie. I'd take that performance with a grain of salt

I read the Eagles board and they said their 2nd stringers are like 3rd stringers. So mac should have success in these type of games because it's like he is at bama again. Still if you at his overall stats in the two games without actually watching the games they don't look that impressive. 26-38 for 233 yards and 0 TD's vs 2nd and 3rd stringers. So say you can turns those two games into 1 single game and say those 2nd and 3rd stringers equals the worst defensive team in the league. Would 26-38 with 233 yards and no TD's be considered an impressive game? It would be alright but nothing that would be considered performance of the week honors.

yea man I hear ya. But this is what we do on forums. We freak out, over-analyze, crown someone, over-exaggerate, etc. We've all seen enough over the years to know what's real in the pre-season and what is not. Our approach to Lance is far different than the Pats approach to Mac. Shanahan is deliberately putting Lance in tough situations, have him sit back and read without scrambling, and play with second/third stringers. The Pats are in a legit and tight QB competition so they are calling these preseasons games more "real-life." We all know what we saw last Saturday is not the real gameplan for Lance in the regular season. I expected people to freak out and say we f*cked up passing on Lance. Next week we will probably be like "Damn! We got it right!"

Not one single person in here mentioning Mac is playing with all his starting offensive line, WRs, and RBs against the Eagles backups.

Meanwhile Lance played against the Chiefs starters and behind a Swiss cheese offensive line.

I don't say that to diminish Jones. I was one of the few who liked all three top QBs. He's going to be a Matt Ryan level of qb.

But y'all overreacting over a preseason game and add no context to their situations at all. The pats offensive line might be the best pass blocking offensive line in the NFL.

Mac Jones moves up in the pocket and throws a strike = "OMG we shoulda drafted Mac Jones"

Trey Lance moves up in the pocket and throws a strike receiver drops the ball = " bad play, is Lance a bust?"

You're a fool if you think Mac Jones didn't have the early advantage playing at Alabama and behind a great pass blocking offensive line in New England, Trey isn't a finished product.

This is a marathon not a sprint. Y'all buncha Stuart Little's I swear.

Just from this clip posted above your post :

Thought I would point out how you are clearly overreacting with your post to their overreactions.

This guy going from not being touched at Alabama to barely being touched at NE so far lol

Mac also has impeccable mechanics and a quick processor. NE is bringing back their old-school Tom Brady quick game, which fits Mac Jones' style like a glove.

Poor Trey going from not being touched at NDSU to being pounded here in SF. Trey is going to have to learn to process things quicker and get that ball out faster. He also needs to continue hammering out those mechanics. That said, I don't think anyone should be making any claims about draft mistakes. It's way too damn early to even consider that. These guys haven't played a single real NFL game. Furthermore, football is about consistency, not one game.

That's what happens when you can't move. You get good at getting the ball out of your hands. As has been said a lot, his floor is high and his ceiling low.

Unfortunetely we will be dealing with this all season. One week it will be we made the right call and the next week it will be we didn't. This is a longterm investment, We have our franchise QB and he will be great. Just need to understand this was not a 2021 investment. It was a 2021-2036 investment. The teams that should get critisized if Mac Jones has alot of early success are the teams that passed up on a QB all together. Like the Broncos, Eagles, and even the Panthers despite them trading for Darnold.

Jones has developed keen pocket awareness because he had no choice but to do so. He's not winning a foot race with anyone so he can only hope to step up and away from pass rushers.

Lance completely oblivious to the pressure, does nothing to move away from it. It's the thing that frustrated me the most about Beathard. He'd just drop back and stand there in the same exact spot, making life easy on pass rushers.

If he can't step up in the pocket then he needs to throw on some Russell Wilson/Kyler Murray tape and use his athleticism to keep moving around back behind the line of scrimmage, waiting for someone to come open.

I counted the seconds between the two and Mac had a full 1 second longer in the pocket. And that's not counting the part where he stepped forward.

Yep.

Also, if you notice carefully, the fact that Trey has such a long delivery makes it more difficult to reset. He literally brings the ball down and back to throw it. Once he commits, it's almost like pulling back a slingshot. This is just one tiny aspect as to why mechanics matter.

Yes, that's the point of the clips. That's called pocket presence. Good QBs feel the pressure, protect the ball, keep their eyes up, and navigate toward clean passing lanes. Mac Jones has excellent pocket presence.

The difference is, Trey has much much more to go in his development.

Agreed. Nobody is saying he won't improve or whatnot. We're just talking football here.

That said, I don't believe you can develop high-level pocket presence. It's a feel/instinctual thing that you either have or don't.
Why are we still talking about this scrub? Can't wait for Buffalo to destroy this clown.

We made the right call no question about it, only stupid people still believes Mac Jones will do any good.
