Cosell talked about how overall Bill gave him easy reads and the defenses they played in preseason were pretty vanilla overall. Thought he has some nice throws vs NY week 3 but I still see a lot of the same stuff That imo made him a high floor low ceiling dude. Velocity subpar and his ability to make plays from a muddy pocket/extend is meh overall.

we will see, we need to realize we aren't gonna have an answer for a couple yrs…for me I wanted fields over both.

The defenses were the most vanilla I've ever seen in a preseason. Mac faced more than 4 rushers only 7 times the entire preseason.

5 times vs Washingon
0 times vs Eagles
2 times vs Giants

7 times in 59 dropbacks.

Trey saw 5 or more rushers on 22 of 52 drop backs.

I don't care to argue this much, but the defense the Raiders put on the field vs us was the worst NFL product I have ever seen. So not sure you wanna go there

Way to narrow down the entire preseason to one game. Mac faced starters in 10 minutes of one game. The game where the Giants rushed more than 4 twice, and Mac had his worst stretch of the preseason (one pass completed that was more than 5 yards past the LOS). So get out of here trying to compare the level of competition when it was damn near even.

The point wasn't the quality of the defenders, but the way the defense played. Mac faced vanilla defenses and Trey faced actual schemes (or at least a heavy pass rush).

Again, I'm not arguing this stuff, because preseason stats don't matter at all, only observing traits and what not matters. We've seen Mac work comfortably in the pocket and avoid pressure by climbing, we have seen Trey look fidgety and extremely uncomfortable there even with a clean pocket. That's the bottom line as far as I'm concerned with preseason.

Yet Mac was sacked 5 times to Trey's 6.

He is on par with Patriots greats such as Hoyer and Brissett!

Again, not about stats but about visuals. Big difference. If you can't admit Trey looked uneasy in the pocket and Mac didn't, we aren't going to find any common ground.

Captain Checkdown also had a higher Y/A throughout the whole preseason. Which was all the rage after week one of preseason.

So bigger stronger faster isn't exactly the most important trait for a QB?

Not sure where you are getting 7 from. Maybe somebody counting the play from the Raiders game where Mitchell went the wrong way on the run play?

Either way, numbers are just part of the story. Almost every sack on Lance was the result of immediate pressure/someone getting beaten badly. All five sacks on Mac were coverage sacks where he had plenty of time to sit in the pocket and go through reads.

Not sure who cares about Y/A. Kirk Cousins was #2 in Y/A last season. Jimmy G was #3 in 2019. Both were ahead of Mahomes, Rodgers, and Brady.

This conversation should be focused on Mac Jones more than a comparison with Trey Lance. Again, virtually every draftnik noted that Jones was the most pro-ready of all the QBs coming out this year. Hence, it should not be a surprise, nor should it be a big point of debate, that Jones looked more comfortable than Lance. That observation only confirmed what people were saying before the draft.

On the 49er side, the fact that Garoppolo will be the starter until Lance gains the necessary comfort level to take over is one of the reasons Lance was the pick and not Jones. It could well be argued that if JG was not here, Jones might well have been the pick for the above reason.

I think the problem is, with you, is that you cemented yourself as a Mac Jones fanboy. Your name says it all. People have a hard time taking you seriously because we think you cannot be impartial towards Lance. It's totally fine if you think Mac will have the better career, is better right now, etc, but that's just what it is right now.

Just like NY85 cemented himself as a Trey Lance guy. Everything is negative about Jimmy. You really have to read between the lines and find the truth in someone's argument if they will never find the positives in something else.
