Hard to run the ball when they know you're just throwing short most of the time. Miami clamped down on the run game after Harris broke a couple off early. First 6 carries went for 60 yards. Had 40 yds on 17 carries the rest of the game.

Their WR1/2 are Agholor and Kendrick f**king Bourne. I don't see them becoming a deep passing team anytime soon.

Defenses will play short and tight like they do against JG and Alex Smith

The short passes will convert a few first downs but the offense will not score reliably

Has everyone forgotten what our own offense looks like when it stalls out?

Historically, outside of a couple years with Moss, they've never really been a deep passing team. Its always been dink and dunk methodically down the field and wait for the defense to make a mistake and then capitalize on it with a big play. The offense worked hand in hand with the defense in keeping opposing defenses on the field, wearing them down while their own defense stayed rested and ready. Its why their top receivers have frequently been tight ends and guys playing from out of the slot.

For the style of offense they run, you need a QB that is a master of details, that can predict where the matchup advantage will be, who can process at a high level and get the football out quickly and accurately.

Can Jones be that guy for them? Time will tell. So far he's looked solid, especially for a rookie passer running what is a fairly complex offensive scheme.

Jones did his part to put the team in position to win the game. Had it not been for Damien Harris' late fumble, the Pats may have won that game. Jones' critics pointed out he faced very little pressure at Alabama. Jones certainly answered them with a 70% completion percentage when under pressure (7/10) to go along with the 102 rating.

Very good start for the young man.

Lol. Was better than a 120 MPH fastball at the receivers feet.

uhhh....ok?

You don't have to get so defensive. This is a Mac Jones thread and part of the concern is that he doesn't have the arm to get these throws there in time in the pros. This is regular season evidence of that. Doesn't mean he's a crummy QB, just limited.

That first throw was well-placed, the DB made a good play on the ball. A very good receiver might have done a better job shielding the DB, however, that first tweet is clearly an attempt down-rate Jones for not having a "strong arm." Jones then goes on to show he does have a strong arm as proven in the following tweets. Scroll on down that tweet and see other throws where Jones put NFL heat on the ball.

If he had a better arm the DB wouldn't have gotten there in time. That was the entire point of the video....

Did you watch the three videos below that one? In the first one he was throwing with touch to allow the receiver to run under it. In the succeeding vids he threw ropes.

Then his pass selection was the mistake on that play. Should have thrown it with more velocity.

...or just a good play by the DB.

Do you understand how arm strength & velocity work? Every QB in NFL history can throw hard. But does a QB have the strength to get it there when you are pressured, can't step into the throw & your mechanics can't be perfect?

As I said, the ball placement was there and the read was fine. He couldn't get it there vs an NFL secondary player. "It was a good play". I've got news for you: good play CBs litter the nfl, so if you can't get it there quicker, that's going to keep happening.... Which is my point with Mac

No reason to get overly defensive. I thought he played well overall. It's ok to say he played fine but is also lacking top flight arm strength. Not even sure why that is a controversial statement but the Mac defense force is what it is!

I think it's because you are using one play to say he can't do something when in other plays he clearly showed that he can. I think even his defenders admit that he doesn't have top flight arm strength. Your comments "He couldn't get it there vs an NFL secondary player." seem to suggest that he has no arm strength. That is what we are debating.
