What we can see in the video is the defender had good coverage and makes a good play.

But we also have evidence of this in college. So I'm adding those things up. If a player had a physical deficiency throwing in college it's unlikely to get better in the pros. Guess we shall see!

I look forward to every possible future Mac criticism being defended with a variety of excuses!

There is also evidence of him making similar throws while under pressure and the ball had enough zip.
Went back and watched the All-22 for his first game.

  • Made some nice throws.
  • McD gave him some very easy stuff. A lot of open 1st reads.
  • Only saw two throws that I'd call poor, and one of them may have been on the WR not continuing his route. The other cost them a first down in the RZ.
  • Biggest problem is he had three or four plays that could have gone for big gains, but he checked it down without any real pressure.
  • There were a few plays where the Miami defense left guys wide open either due to them just being confused or a guy getting picked.
  • Got saved from a probable pick-6 on a pass that was batted at the line. The DB had jumped the route and was visibly upset that the ball got batted down.

Under pressure: 6-10, 54 yds, TD, sack
Vs blitz: 10-15, 82 yds
3rd & 6+: 6-8, 74 yds, 4 1st downs
3rd & 1-5: 3-4, 15 yds, 3 1st downs

He does not lack for confidence.

Just watched his game. Kid looks like a 10 year veteran, sliding around throwing with quick anticipation, pocket mobility, made every throw very catchable except two (one caught, one dropped), still had several drops and big plays called back by penalties, etc. Very impressive command. Threw some rockets too (arm strength?). Very very decisive. Game winning drive only to see it fumbled away by the RB inside the 5. The kid can just play the position. Period.

But like with any rookie, can he remain consistent?

Nothing wrong with wanting to see Mac or any of these QB prospects succeed, and it's absolutely beneficial to the league if any of these guys can find some level of success as a starter.

I am not just a 49er fan but also a football fan.

Totally fair take. I have no problem if he becomes a top QB. Good for him as long as it's not against the 9ers. I don't see it happening but can obviously be wrong.

49er fans should not be rooting for Lance to fail to prop up Mac Jones however.

Totally. I never got the hate from the start. And it's certainly hate. Looking forward to watching Wilson next; Fields and especially, Lance someday too.

Not bad for a rookie in a tough divisional game.

There was literally nothing else more he could have done. It was a 17-16 type of game but HE more than did his job (queue Bill Belichick).

Just finished watching every dropback of his from the Dolphins game. His performance was very "meh", in that he was effective underneath with the stick and flat routes, like we knew, but he never pushed the ball once. He's very Andy Dalton-ish.

He made a couple of nice throws, but everything else was schemed open, easy underneath throws with good to excellent protection. He had a guy on an inside post that was open but the ball is so slow out of his hand that the cornerback recovered and batted it away.

I always felt he was a 2nd round quarterback prospect... nothing has changed my mind yet.

Lol. You mean he executed a New England offensive game plan that they've done for the last 20 years? Good lord.

BUt HE DidN'T ThROw BOmbS!

17/20 at the half with two throw away vs 3 picks by Wilson.
Stud
For all the guys who said he could put the ball wherever he wants it...... Doesn't look the NFL is going to effect his ball placement.

Gotta hand it to the pats, might be a Brady might be a Jones, but if you can find a guy that put the ball where you want it, you can run an NFL offense with out all the "other stuff" (running qbs, bombs cross field throws etc)

Reminds me of the 80s and how much of a copy cat league this is, props to the Pats for keeping it as simple as throw and catch.
Solid game for him, nothing flashy, made consistently good decisions besides that weird grounding play. Easily the best of the starting rookie QB's this week.
