Wasted pick.

Through first two career starts...

Mac Jones: 1W-1L, 74% comp, 467 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT, 96.7 rating, 20.5 points per game
AJ McCarron: 1W-1L, 66% comp, 392 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT, 98.2 rating, 20.5 points per game

You can post whatever stats fit your narrative. Dude has been solid for a rookie qb. Patriots are set for the future. I don't know if they can unseat the bills though.

Mac has been amazing for a rookie QB.

He looks like a 10 year vet already. That was his draft profile. Ready to go.

The question is where is his ceiling. His draft profile says he doesn't have much room to grow

Correct. And they can't do this because the bills have a dynamic QB. Now you're starting to see why shanny identified you probably can't get by with "he's fine" at QB

When i saw the TV replay of this, I thought "I've never seen a play like this designed to be thrown 7 yds down the field."

Had Agholor wide open for a TD and nobody within 10 yards of him when he decides to throw underneath.

Let the excuses roll right in but this is what you'll get with a guy like mac

You could also make the argument he's just playing too fast. Looks like he didn't even consider the deeper throw. You'd also like to see him hit Smith in stride instead of making him have to almost stop completely to catch that ball.

The answer to the question is you cannot say for certain. Assumptions and opinions are not factual. Maybe he missed an opportunity over the top to NA or maybe he made the right read... nobody here knows and can say with certainty what the progression in McDaniels play design is.

Well you can make that argument for every QB in history who missed an open TD (short of the coaches telling you the progression).

Look I get, you are looking for negatives to point out because for the most part some folks on here and even the media types and analysts are giving the kid his just due for playing pretty good football by a rookie QBs standards to date.

Kid isn't ever going to be perfect and certainly hasn't been perfect so far. But this? This ain't it chief.

"Yeah, I think with that type of play, it's just kind of hard sometimes to read it out as best you can because there's no one protecting," the rookie QB said on WEEI's "Merloni and Fauria." "Not because they don't want to; it's just not part of the play. It's just a one-and-done deal because I'm by myself. When James threw it back to me, I just saw Jonnu flash in front of me and got it out really quick. Yeah, I think if you go back and watch it, I definitely could have held the ball and maybe either looked before I caught it to see if there was anyone around me. I just didn't really have as good of awareness as I should have had. But yeah, it's plays like that where you look at it and it was a good play call and I could have definitely executed better."

Cool but that doesn't tell us the reads. It tells us that upon watching tape Mac is critical of himself for what he perceives as a missed 6 points but that does not mean he read it wrong.

Again, I get it. You are looking for any and all negatives to push a Mac sucks narrative. This ain't it chief and I am done with this discussion.
