If we were going to take Mac then should have just stayed Jimmy. Everything that was said in comparison pre-draft holds true. Most NFL ready-okay. A little better Jimmy G-maybe?

Now let's see what we bring to the table after a one year on field Trey, Can't wait.

50% of Mac's attempts this season have been 5 yards or less.
60% of Mac's completions this season have been 5 yards or less.

would love to see the rest of the QBs around the league for context.

Especially Mahomes since he is te golden child and the one which whom Trey/Justin was constantly compared to

He has higher AIR/A than Mahomes, Herbert and Rodgers. But quick screens to Tyreek, Ekeler & Adams looks cooler than Jones 5 yard outs to Billy Bob and Elroy

Yes it sounds like New England Patriots football. They have been masters of the short passing offense since forever and a day.

Good for them. They can run that style offense. If Kyle wanted the same ole style offense we would have stayed with Jimmy or taken a maybe more healthy version Mac.

Since we did not that should tell us everything we need to know. Don't let non playing time this season trick anyone into imaginary thoughts like he has regressed. Kyle didn't want him and was arm wrestled into it. Within two years I'd imagine the offense is unrecognizable from what it is today. By choice.

Go Mac go. Glad the Pats got their guy. Umm by the way. So did the 9ers.

I have no qualms with our pick, I liked both guys.

I just don't understand the folks who want to knock Mac for basically running the same offense the Patriots have always ran.

EDIT: As it turns out, I am an idiot and fudged these numbers a bit. Will update next week, because that's too much work to put in over the holiday weekend.

Mahomes would have to throw his next 125 passes at 5 yards or less to get to Mac's rate.
Rodgers would have to throw his next 90 passes at 5 yards or less to get to Mac's rate.

For comparison, Mac has thrown 100 fewer passes than Mahomes. Mac has thrown more (174 vs 165) passes of 5 or fewer yards than Mahomes.

Why so desperate to point out insignificant numbers? He's executing the plays that are being called for him. It's clear he's been instructed to keep the ball moving in his offense and he by all accounts has as his 1st down completion percentage and total completion completion percentage show. He's currently got his team on the hottest win streak in the NFL right now. I doubt that would be the case if he was only completing the 58% Lawrence and Fields have managed thus far or the 57% Wilson has for NY much less the 52% that Trey has.

Most passes in the NFL are short passes because they're easier to complete and require the line to block for a shorter time. That's one way offenses have adapted to linemen coming out of college with poor pass blocking skills. There's a difference between the great QBs that CAN throw deep when the opportunity is there and those that aren't very good beyond 15 yards. Even though those really deep throws represent a small portion of the total number of pass attempts, they can be real game changers with a sudden 40-50 yard TD pass. When a team is trailing with a minute or so left and takes over deep in their own territory, their chances are better if the have a QB that can throw a 15-20 yard sideline pass to stop the clock instead of a 5 yard throw over the middle.
