Pretty much says why he got traded to a division rival.

Summary: Broke out then regressed after an extension... so possible contract year phenom. Was 4th on the team in receptions, even behind their RB. Waddle became WR1, traded for Hill, signed other pass catching RBs in Mostert... and about to turn 30. Oh, and a new staff and he had no guaranteed money =

Started during the draft process with a guy from alabama, insert another guy from new york... add a couple other's opinions vs those that for some reason attach emotions to draft prospects for the "I told you so's" and boom you have this thread.

What we really need is that after year 1... put up a poll with who everyone has comped him as along with their names. Is he the next Drewsipher Brees, or meticulous Mr. Brady... or is he a 1st round playoff QB type who cant elevate like Pennington 2.0 or Captain checkdown Smith. Or does the league figure him out and turn him into a decently careered backup QB like Keenum, Beck, Dalton, Derek Anderson, Maddox, Batch, Banks, Griffin III, Taylor, the Smiths, the Johnsons etc.

He's got the talent to stay in the league for awhile... but at what capacity is the true debate.

Take Andy Dalton off that list. He had a nice run of winning seasons and playoff appearances. Couple of Pro Bowls also. He's like the bare minimum in what a first round QB should do. That's not a career backup.

That's about the career I would expect from Jones. If the Pats can get an AJ Green maybe they could be back in playoffs. Barring major injuries to other teams there chance this year is very slim. 9th or 10th best roster in AFC.

Yeah I don't see how they can compete with the Bills. Talent wise the Pats might have the worse roster in the division.Yes even the Jets have a more talented roster. They just lack experience.

Adding a vet and a second round rookie is adding to the WR room though. So point stands.

True but they still don't have that #1 WR. Bourne is probally their #1 and he was our #3 and we didn't even have a top 10 WR room at that time. They are hoping Jacobi Meyers can turn into that guy but he is not there yet.

Mac will lucky to be the 10th or so best QB in the AFC. But if we succeeds and is the next Tom Brady I really don't care because he's not a 9er. Where I differ from most is I don't expect him to be a put a team on his back kind of QB. Posters see potential for greatness dude to his physical attributes. Which those are off the charts. Where I struggle to see greatness is the areas everyone says he needs to work on. Which is the basics of playing QB. The stuff everyone says he needs work on are things that you should already have before hitting the NFL. Yes experience will help him in the read and recognition portion of his game but that isn't exactly where he needs work.

All of that is of course just my opinion. It's not rooting for failure It's not expecting greatness.

As for rooting for success of other QBs. We all have players around the league we like at multiple different positions. We all have attributes in QBs that we like. Mac Jones has the attributes I like in a QB. I'll root for him the same way I rooted for Brees & Peyton. The same way I'm rooting for Burrow.

Exactly! 2 SB in 3 years. I believe Mac is more willing to throw downfield and more athletic.

Not entirely true. I'm ready to move on from Jimmy. Though I respect and appreciate his time with us. Jimmy's issues IMO is he just stands there and doesn't manipulate the pocket. Literally just stands there. He can't stay healthy and don't give his WRs a chance downfield. IMO Mac is superior in those 3 areas already. Obviously Jimmy is superior in many others at this point but as it relates to why I'm ready to move on from Jimmy, Mac is better while also comparable in others.

I'd say Trey too is superior in the areas I question Jimmy. I just don't think he's comparable in others.

There is a limited amount of true #1s available, not every team has one and one isn't necessary to winning a SB, multiple ways to skin that cat.
