scouting reports rated him as an average starter, basically Jimmy G. apparently they were right.

Bill Belichick is self-tarnishing his reputation as a great coach. He hit paydirt (or lucked out) with the selection of Brady, and rode that Brady train to a record number of Super Bowl Championships. But can he do it again? Or, was the selection of Brady just dumb luck? It doesn't look like he found the same magic with Mac Jones. Mac has been given multiple chances to prove his worth. It isn't working.
So, does Belichick step away and keep his reputation somewhat intact? Or does he go back to the drawing board of the NFL draft?
You could also make the case that Shanahan's selection of Brock Purdy was also dumb luck. But, maybe not. We have some of the back story on that decision. Purdy had big time support on the coaching staff. Brian Griese was pleading with both Lynch and Shanahan to draft the kid. He wasn't the only one, either. There were at least two others. One of the 49ers scouts was also positive that Purdy could be the next big thing.
How many more chances does Belichick get? Does his Super Bowl pedigree give him a little more leeway? He certainly has the support of Robert Kraft, who makes the call on these decisions. But, Kraft is no spring chicken. He's 82-years old. Will the Kraft family continue to support Belichick if Robert Kraft is forced to cede control or passes away?

True. I agree with you. But those same scouting reports said the same thing about Brock Purdy. So, that's something that has to be taken into consideration.

Meh. I mean judging or comparing sharpness and quality of needles on a table,...vs. finding a great needle in a haystack. These are just different things.
There's always going to be guys that prove to be better than they were ranked. That doesn't mean to disregard scouting reports of 1st-2nd round guys as if they don't matter.

I agreed. His HC record without Tom Brady is really bad. If he didn't kick Tom Brady out of NE and retired when Tom Brady retired, he would have been considered by many as GOAT HC. Now that Tom Brady won a ring without him and he continued to struggled without Tom, his legacy has really been tarnished.

Yep he should of left when he no longer had Tom Brady. It seems like he wanted to prove it was him that deserves the majority of the credit for the Patriots success instead of Tom Brady. But if the Patriots didn't have Brady, I have my doubts that would of won any Superbowls during that time.
This is why Bill Walsh is soo revered. He didn't stick around past his prime as a Head Coach and make his legacy look worse. Although I wish he stayed around for a few more seasons.

So you are saying like Greg Popovich's reputation is also tarnished because he has been sucking for years now?
You are only as good as the roster you have. Id say the difference between good and bad coaches is the results they produce with a talented roster, and yes in the NFL, having a good QB makes it a lot easier.
What is Walsh without Montana? Reid without Mahomies?

Sheesh…terrible game from him this past Sunday. At this rate Trevor Lawrence is the only one keeping 2021 from being the worst QB draft class of all time
