What's funny is that OL group only has ONE top 100 pick out of the bunch

You still on this I see

was I never not on this lol? he's gonna need better OL help then the others, plain and simple OR a bunch of guys that can get open quickly.

I'm not the only one that's said this either.

I think a lot of that would be negated for us after his rookie year, if he's identifying pressure and getting the ball out quickly a lot of our OL shortcomings would be rectified.

So what you're saying is the QB is instrumental in PP and it's not necessarily OL talent overall? But I was told....

Also it sounds a lot like what we already have with Jimmy lol.

What I'm getting at is in the NFL you can't always identify pressure and get the ball out quickly (when no one is open) then what? Well what a lot of young QBs are doing is moving/extending plays with their feet to allow for guys to get open, get free yards, throw on the run etc.

Without question Mac will need a better OL compared to the other top QBs in this draft. He's not gonna get afford max protect and have dudes open immediately every play.

Ugh I wish they could stick Mac's head on Lance/Fields body lol.

No one wants a QB who spends all his time in a gym, it's just reasonable to question if you've spent any.

I want a QB who is smart, accurate and a leader, but I also want one who can access all areas of the field with his arm and even his legs, as that puts huge stress on the defense.

It would be nice, but everyone has seen brady's predraft photo. Gym attendance is not mandatory. Also, brady is probably the most immobile qb ever.

People have this vision of the perfect qb, but it doesn't translate to superbowls. Except for mahommes, and he really should be 0 and 2

This. Shanahan is still going to scheme receivers open and Mac's strength is to find those open guys quick and allow them to get their YAC.

Yes, we have Jimmy doing that right now, but you can't count on his availability.

This isn't 1999, everyone is bigger, stronger and more mobile. A QB's gym attendance is mandatory if they want to survive.

I understand that you don't need to have the perfect QB to win, but you should absolutely want one, it's certainly not going to decrease your chances of winning.

This is the heart of the Jimmy vs no Jimmy argument. You can be okay with what you have and still want someone better. If you're content with average then you can't expect a SB or deep playoff run every year.

Yea you keep looking at what alot of the other young guys are doing instead of focusing on what Jones can actually do. You're too focused on what you want your QB to look like. Not even evaluating Jones himself. Too focused on mobility and nothing else.

I know what he can and can't do. He's a heady QB who's better than other rookie QBs at reading coverages and going through progressions, but he's still not some elite NFL QB at that either..he's still a 17 game starter end of the day. He's also had 3 yrs to understand the offense. Lance was a redshirt freshmen. Fields got tossed in last yr. That stuff matters.

Every damn successful young QB over the past 5 yrs has been successful because YES they can move, they can make plays when everything breaks down...now yrs into the league those same players are now digesting/learning coverages and protections. They're going through reads and running an NFL offense. That's stuff that can be learned...being able to extend plays vs NFL talent and throwing a rope 30 yards downfield off one foot is not something you learn how to do.

Look I don't hate him, If he's the pick I'll deal with it and root for McCorkle all the same lol. I understand the reason people like him. I also understand how today's NFL goes. I don't see some massive upgrade from Jimmy to him though.

I literally wrote this in Fields' thread.

I'm not so sure about Lance, I actually think he has a good enough head on his shoulders, he's just 2 years behind Mac in terms of development. I think you give him those 2 years and he's a world beater.

agreed, I've heard nothing but great things with Lance and being a film guy who's just super young that's it.

redshirt freshmen, calling protections and running a pro-style offense? His full week up to the game is all about film prep and doing things that NFL QBs are doing. He's having his own film/works with his WRs on the reg.... He will be ready to roll once he gets a little time to sit back and learn from Shanny

What is your definition of successful?

Exactly what has changed since 1999? In 2019, the 4 qbs in the championship game were aaron rodgers, ryan tannehill, jimmy g, and mahommes.

What is the definition of perfect qb? There isn't one, but people assume there are.

You could, but the police might have some questions for you afterward
