Never said you couldn't say that about Fields or whomever isn't named Jones. There's certain attributes that can't be taught though. IMO understanding coverages/playbook is....Being able to make a free blitzer miss on a broken play and throwing it on a rope is god given ability. Forcing a team to have to run a certain coverage or having a zone read mean something is about the QBs ability outside of throwing the ball...all these kids can throw the ball. All these prospects can play in the pocket. Some are a little better right now, but as you've seen with a lot of these young QBs, they can absolutely learn to play within the pocket, coaching and the roster are very important. I think we have that in SF.
You need to find out if the prospect is smart enough and has the work ethic to learn the scheme you want to run. 3 yrs from now I can see Lance/Wilson/Fields playing at a higher level than Jones (if they go to the right team). It's all about long term investment for me.... Jones like a lot of Bama guys IMO are maxed out coming into the league good or bad as that might sound.
