Me. This would be dumber and piss me off more than taking Solly at 3

You might feel a little better if you watch JTO's breakdowns of Jones. He's good. Not worth pick 3 in a vacuum, but I would not be upset with this. The lost draft capital is of course disconcerting.

I won't argue on whether he is a great future QB or not, but I agree that even if you think he is the best QB in the draft, there is no way he is drafted before 6. You trade up to 3, because you value one of the consensus top 3 QB. Anything else, and you just wasted draft picks.

Unless the ACTUAL consensus top 3 isn't what the talking heads think. The only voices that matter on that are the front offices of the teams in position to take the first three QBs. Prior to this trade, it was Jacksonville, New York Jets, and Atlanta. Whatever consensus THOSE teams have about the top 3 QBs is the only correct one, in terms of your ability to draft the QB you want.

As for who will truly end up best, that, of course, isn't a consensus. It's a fact that we'll judge later.

You move up to 3 if you aren't able to move up to 4, 5 or 6 like the 49ers tried to do reportedly.

Also the "consensus Top 3" QB means absolutely nothing. It comes down to what each team values most individually.

That's exactly it. Nobody can convince me that we needed to trade up to #3 for him in the same way nobody can convince me we needed to trade up in the 3rd round for Beathard. It would be rinse and repeat of that draft, only worse this time, if we passed on Fields/Lance and watch them become stars for the "safe" pick for his system in Jones.

Wonder how hard they even tried for 6. Miami moved up to 6 in an hour after we moved to 3. Weird

Not that complicated. Philly had been trying to move up to #3. Once the 49ers beat them to it there was no reason for them to stick around at #6.

I'd much rather be at 3 than 6. It's worth the extra first rounder. Going up to 6 to miss out on your guy? yikes!

Well the problem with #6 is there's a good chance 4 QB's could have already been taken. Then your left with the one top QB remaining and he may be the one you didn't really want.
I like Mac but I really don't see this FO valuing him that much to trade to 3 for him but I could be wrong. They're looking for one of the mobile guys. Otherwise, they would've found a way to beat the rams offer for Stafford who is a proven commodity.

But it was said that they were only moving to 3 for Wilson. What does that mean for us then? I just find it weird that we were trying for reportedly weeks to move up to picks 3-6. That's a wide range when trying to zero in on a QB no?
No one really knows who they want and I'm not completely sold on any of them that will be available.
But what this does is assure they get THERE guy they want outside the top two and for that I think it was a good trade.
Accept Mac Jones at 3 now to become impervious to the pain and suffering the deniers will feel on April 29.

Yeah exactly. So with all that said, does that mean we were just as comfortable with "our guy" being there at 6 as we are at 3? That tells me even more so that the guy is this thread we are in

It will hurt me all the same damnit, but I do know it's coming this time as opposed to when we passed on Watson for Solly
