Mac Jones-QB-Jaguars

Mac looks solid. The problem is that this is a very sexy quarterback class and it looks like we're zeroing in on another Garroppolo clone.

Even an clone would be an upgrade given the significantly cheaper price tag.

Yeah I think he's got better mechanics, vision, a better deep ball, plus the cap savings is what is needed.

I still would rather have a QB with higher upside/ceiling, especially if you're spending a top 50 pick and are planning on him being the LT FQB.
Awesome thread on Mac Jones. Shanny's qb1

"accurate ball despite being hit by a Mack Truck"

Kyle:

Smooth like butter.

Oh, and Nick Bolton would be a great selection in the 4th round.

"accurate ball despite being hit by a Mack Truck"

Kyle:

Mac Jones is what Kyle thought he was getting in CJ Beathard.

What happened to Jimmy? This wasn't him coming out of college. Jimmy was super aggressive in college. He broke a bunch of passing records at Eastern Illinois(some held by Tony Romo). He had a very nice deep ball coming out--fades all day. I loved everything about Jimmy as a prospect. He played so quick, his release was blazing fast and he was a gunslinger. What happened to that Jimmy?

I wonder whether Shanahan's style of yelling at his quarterbacks has been counter-productive with Jimmy. Mullens and CJ don't seem to be improving either.

I just don't get the hype for Mac Jones. The stats for this year are impressive, but is he really a first round prospect from a tools standpoint? I would love for the Niners to get one of the 4 top rated QB's in the first round, but don't think Jones is in that same class. Am I wrong?

I don't see it as there being a ton of hype for Jones, just that he's a solid looking QB prospect. Is he a Top 5 pick guy? Hell no. Right now I think a reasonable range for him is mid 2nd round. He doesn't have a cannon arm, he's not some tremendous athlete but there is a lot to like about him.

The guy has had to step into some big shoes with Tua getting injured and then leaving for the NFL. He also had a lot of Bama fans rooting against him, rooting for Bryce Young, the star recruit who himself has the makings of a top future draft pick. Jones ignored all the noise and simply went out and did his thing and right now their offense is performing at an even higher level than it did last year despite the loss of highly talented players like Tua, Ruggs, Jeudy, Wills and others.

He's surrounded by a lot of talent but he's still the guy pulling the trigger and making plays happen, getting the ball out quickly and accurately while having one of the best deep balls in college football despite not being a guy with a massive arm. He's shown the ability to hang in and make players under pressure and put his playmakers in the best position to go and pick up huge yards after the catch. I'm mostly interested in how he'll do from the SEC Championship game onwards. Thus far all of this may as well have been preseason, once we get to the playoffs, if he can perform well at the highest level, then I think we start talking about him as a potential 1st rounder.

If he balls out like crazy and Alabama wins a national championship, more teams are going to overlook him not being some Madden Create-A-Player type freak when he's someone that just finds ways to win. So time will tell on that but there is the opportunity for him to move up quite a ways if he continues his run of excellent play.

Good points. There have been a couple of recent projections I have seen that project Jones to the Niners or the Bears in the first round which I think is nuts. If I were the Niners front office, I wouldn't spend anything higher than their #48 pick on this guy. The CFB Playoffs will definitely be a better indicator of how this kid will perform at the next level.

If you can't take yelling then being an NFL qb is not the job for you or let alone being in the NFL. It's not like Kyle would be yelling at them disrespecting them, it's all constructive wanting them to be better. The fact is Beathard and Mullens aren't that good and Jimmy is just ok
OVERRATED....

Late first round at best...
