Mac's ceiling might not be as high but it feels like, on this team, he'd have a really good shot of reaching it
Since Mac gets comped to Matt Ryan a lot, I watched some of his BC games on youtube to see how he looked coming out. I'm not so sure Ryan is an accurate comp as a prospect. They are similar now, but at age 22, Ryan had a lot more in common with Zach Wilson than Mac, albeit with less scrambling ability.

  • Blazing fast delivery, just stupid fast.
  • Silky smooth, quick hips. Wilson is elite at this, and Ryan was close.
  • Very natural thrower. Doesn't need feet under him, pretty good at off-platform throws. Lots of velocity.
  • Good improvisor/play extender. Makes split-second decisions/can change arm angle while extending plays on the move. There are some great plays where he'll zip it into a tight window 20+ yards while scrambling backwards.
  • Light on his feet, pretty good acceleration, all-around quickness/crispness in his movements.
  • Not as fast as Wilson, but pretty good straight-line speed. Had a good td run vs. VT '07.

The similarities with Jones, I think, are more mental than physical. Ryan's football IQ was elite at age 22. He had pretty disciplined mechanics, never looked sloppy or out of control. Ryan was clearly a pocket-passer first and foremost. The problem I have with the comp is that while Ryan preferred to stay in the pocket, he was a very natural athlete who still looked fine on the run. Ryan had elite physical traits; if he were in this draft, he and Jones would not be viewed as identical prospects.

I wish I had seen more of Ryan's games back in the day, he looked like a fun player to watch. He was part tactician/part gunslinger, and he carried his team in some big time games.

Absolutely! Kyle has to watch Niners play Russ and Murray twice a year and realizes we are now behind the curve. The league has changed and it's time the Niners upgraded to a MUCH more athletic QB.

Matt Ryan and Mac Jones share a ton of similarities, but younger Ryan at BC definitely had that gunslinger mentality, but he had to because his team's weren't that good during his time there and he had to make stuff happen to win games, but we've also seen Mac make a few scrambling off platform throws that are jaw dropping, but he didn't need to do it a lot because of how good Alabama was, but it doesn't mean he can't do it.

Kyle doesn't want his QB's ad-libbing and going off script too much, but it takes time to both learn his offense and adjust the way you've always QB'd. Jimmy had the same issues and still does. People complain about Cousins being too conservative, but he's Shanny's perfect QB and it's the reason he wanted him here. He sticks to the script and plays within the system, and a lot of this is because he was groomed under the Shanahan's to value the football and just be an extension of the coach on the field.

Mac Jones has a chance to be very similar. That's why people see his floor as Kirk Cousins and his ceiling as MVP Matt Ryan, when he learned and bought into Shanny's system.

Kyle just wants you to be smart, accurate, quick processor, be capable of making all the throws, pocket awareness, and follow the gameplan. Mac Jones brings that and Kyle getting him as a rookie is like if he got Ryan as a rookie and could've groomed him from day 1 and reined him in at a early age instead of when he was 30 years old. Give him these talented pocket passers when they're young and I'll put my money on Kyle getting them to perform at a high level early in their career.

i think Mac Jones is the pick, and after watching his videos. i would be perfectly fine with it, him and Shanahan together could be very scary for years.

That's a RZ pick in the NFL

NY that's just embarrassing man, you can't look at that and not be the slightest bit impressed.

At that point it's obvious you're just hating.

NY85 gets more locked in than ShanaLynch on draft day.

Let's assume Shanahan wants Jones. It's likely he can trade back, take Jones, and recoup some of what was paid for #3.

1) How far back can he realistically trade back and confidently get Jones, and
2) What picks can he get back on a trade down

For those who don't know who Sage is, he's also close with Kyle Shanahan having played QB 3 years for him and also is with them at the QB Collective camps

Rosenfels is close to Kyle. Was his QB in Houston when Kyle was his QB coach and then OC, and now he works with him at the QB Collective.

So you have BFF Simms saying one thing and Rosenfels saying different. Basically, no one knows s**t.

Lol this. You think Kyle is really telling people who he's going to draft?
Forgot this one who Sage was responding to:
