Yup. And Simms didn't just "mock" Mike McGlinchey to the 49ers at the time, which was the first person to do so, he said that Trent Brown wasn't a fit for Kyle's offense and would be moved. Not a single soul up to that point had suggested McGlinchey as an option because the 49ers had Joe Staley and Trent Brown. Remember, this was also after Kyle, who has a terrible pokerface, boasted about how Trent Brown is the greatest pass protector he's ever seen.

The next year, Simms said Kyle had told him during the draft process that he loved Aiyuk, and that Aiyuk reminded him of Isaac Bruce. I think he realized, however, he had been too obvious the previous year with McGlinchey, so he completely omitted Brandon Aiyuk from all of his WR rankings to prevent drawing any attention to him.

Mac Jones is the pick. Im ok with that. I wasn't, but I am now. He is the prototype qb in a shanahan system and to think that all of a sudden shanny is going to expect his qb to be a runner/dual threat is foolish...running qbs get hurt and the best ability is availability.

The arguments against MJ are absurd.

Mac Jones played with the best talent
Ummm...aren't all the players in the NFL the best talent from college? Pretty sure Kittle is the best TE. Pretty confident that Deebo and Aiyuk are going to be a top WR tandem for years to come. We all know how the running game goes, best in the league when its full steam ahead. Oh, and almost forgot, niners got the one of the best left tackles in the game and a center thats been described as the "brains of the operation" by the above mentioned left tackle. Dont tell me the niners dont have top talent.

Mac Jones isn't mobile
News flash, mobile QBs get hurt. They don't last long. Shanahan doesn't want his qbs to be the hero on the ground, thats why he designs running plays for his WRs. He finds RB gems in the discard and clearance bins. Shanahan, like any offensive coach, wants hi qb to execute the play as it is designed. Why else would he put so much effort in designing plays? For his qb to ad lib? Nope. Jimmy got cute once and look what happened.

Not to mention MJ has the accuracy, awareness, and leadership of a legit qb and comes from a big time program that won at its highest level. Sure, Alabama qbs are notoriously not that good in the NFL, but all it takes is one to be good to change that narrative.

The plan is in place. Keep Jimmy this year, they have him accounted for...unless they get an offer from the pats they can't refuse. He has to want to prove the niners wrong. He has to play with that chip. If not now, then he never will be great. And if he does play great and wins, those future 1sts dont really matter and we have a young backup learning the system and how to win.

I'm ok with Mac Jones...if Zach Wilson is gone.

Greg Cossell is more of an athlete than Mac Jones. He's a doughy Eli Manning with Shaun Hill's physical traits.

Mac Jones had a 32 inch vert IIRC. For someone not athletic, that´s pretty good. His 40 is not that bad either.
And well his footwork is good. There´s the tennis background.
I´m not saying he´s Lamar Jackson but I think we exagerate the statue thing.

They are pretty close both in development, arm and size. Mac Jones ran a 4.68 with a 32" vertical, I'm betting Burrow wasn't that far better but Jones looks to be smoother in the pocket.

We can probably find a lot of QBs that can do those three things and those things can be taught. A QB taken at #3 needs to have elite physical traits. It's nice that a QB is accurate, able to read defenses, and move within the pocket, but can he also throw an accurate dart 30 yards down field while completely airborne falling sideways ala Mahomes in the Super Bowl?

Have you ever watched both of them take off from the pocket?

Don't settle. We didn't trade three first round picks to settle. That's not ok

Is it settling if he was part of the plan months ago?

Lest we forget

Rumors around the scouting community indicate the San Francisco 49ers are investing serious time and resources into scouting signal-callers, Miller wrote. "One area scout told me the team has sent top evaluator Adam Peters to see BYU's Zach Wilson and Alabama's Mac Jones this season
