When the TI-89's not functioning for them,...it looks like even PFF breaks out a little common sense with things.

"Tom Brady's the best to ever play the game," Shanahan said. "And if he could run and do all that other stuff and still be the same way he is, that would be impossible to stop. The more you can have both, the more things you can do as an offense and the less things the defense can do just having to defend everything."

no more of the Kyle wants statues narrative please

He wants guys that can throw well, play in the pocket and run his offense. If they are also an athlete and can run then absolutely that is a plus.

This draft and QB we select will either end or continue the narrative

Disagree.

Every draft class is different and he may or may not have a higher grade on the mobile guys like Lance and Fields versus the non mobile Mac Jones. Mobility does not automatically get one graded higher.

If he picks Jones it does not mean he dislikes mobile QBs, it means he liked Mac more than Trey or Justin.

That narrative comes from the fact that Kyle said that many times BECAUSE a guy can run he never has to develop the necessary pocket skills. It's not that he's against mobile guys; it's that he believes being mobile can sometimes cause other QB skills to atrophy during development.

So yeah, that doesn't mean he's against mobile QBs. I would say it just means he's skeptical of them unless they show the other traits as well.

Totally agree, Mr. Ring-Bearer!

If you have a little bit of time on your hands, read this article. Very well written with regards to the fit of each QB, sans Lawrence, in the 49ers offense. With that being said, McCorkle Jones did not have very good results as a play action QB. He's a drop back QB through and through. Further evidence that he shouldn't be the pick at 3 because play action is a must as a Shanahan QB.

Agree, **IF** Kyle picks Mac its because of his intangibles not his athleticism. I think the rules do favor a mobile QB, but a mobile guy like Kaep who couldn't consistently convert third downs because of his lack of intangibles is worse off than a pocket QB that can at least read the defensive coverage and go through at least to his second progression.

Was a great point by him too. Every niner fan should understand this.

The counter argument against that:

Jimmy is very good at play-action and boot-action. And yet he is a LIABILITY on this team.

Moreover, I strongly argue that it is easier to learn boot-action techniques than it is to learn pocket passing.

Lastly, McCorkle didn't really get much opportunity to do boot or PA stuff. I imagine with more experience he'd be better at it. And again, it is easier to learn boot/PA than it is to learn how to find the open guy under pressure. PA stuff is EASY in terms of the mental aspect. McCorkle just needs some technique coaching and practice and he'll have it.

Yes it's easier to do, however Kyle used to have it as a pre-requisite and Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers both stated they found turning their back on the defense uncomfortable at first.

I back him to overcome it, but people keep saying that he's a perfect fit, even though he has no experience in a staple of this offense and the 3 other options all do.

True, but all of them will need to develop something.

Jones is the safest pick. We'll see how far they swing for in a couple months. Although I'm not convinced that Lance's ceiling is higher than Fields'.
