As Kyle has admitted to, times are changing.

From Kyle

"Tom Brady's the best to ever play the game," Shanahan said. "And if he could run and do all that other stuff and still be the same way he is, that would be impossible to stop. The more you can have both, the more things you can do as an offense and the less things the defense can do just having to defend everything."

no more of the Kyle wants statues narrative please

He wants guys that can throw well, play in the pocket and run his offense. If they are also an athlete and can run then absolutely that is a plus.

This draft and QB we select will either end or continue the narrative

Disagree.

Every draft class is different and he may or may not have a higher grade on the mobile guys like Lance and Fields versus the non mobile Mac Jones. Mobility does not automatically get one graded higher.

If he picks Jones it does not mean he dislikes mobile QBs, it means he liked Mac more than Trey or Justin.

Disagree and everything you wrote is irrelevant. I was talking about the NARRATIVE in what Shanny likes in a QB. If you don't think his "type" will be discussed based on who he selects, in about a month you will be wrong.
Since some people were talking Matt Ryan, I pulled up Ryan's college tape, and I forgot how much Ryan's footwork sucked in college. Mac is cleaner across the board than Matt Ryan was coming out. I literally don't notice a difference in arm strength. It's pretty damn close. Also, the announcers were almost making fun of him for how awkward he was sliding...sound familiar. I think the biggest difference is their size. Matt Ryan looks huge.

krizay, being serious here since you've pretty much been the biggest fan of Mac, what does Mac do that Fields and Lance can't? And do you think Fields/Lance would not have had a great season on that Alabama team? I'm not in any way shape or form taking anything away from Mac with that question because what he did was outstanding and one of the best seasons I've ever seen from a college QB, right there with Burrows. Just looking for discussion because my gut feeling is that I need to start warming up to him being the pick

Jones is faster processing after the snap, (probably) has better short accuracy, and goes through reads better. Basically, Jones is the best of the three at all the stuff a non-mobile QB has to be good at in order to succeed.

The others are more physically talented and better at throwing on the run (they have ELITE physical talent).

People can point to it but they won't be able to prove themselves right because of the reasons I listed.

Jumping in on this one

Fields is a risk when he's under pressure. A qb in a Shanahan's system needs to be cool in the pocket. He doesn't want his qb making plays on 3rd&15 with their legs.

Lance is inexperienced. He is intriguing though and has the upside, the kind you get excited for and blow your wad of firsts for...but I think he needs time to develop. If Jimmy wins (stays healthy) and Lance gets time to learn, I think he's the pick. But I think Shanny thinks Jimmy won't stay healthy. Mac is more "NFL Ready" or whatever.

Thanks for trying but you didn't answer any of my questions, and I disagree with what you said.

Fields is a risk when under pressure? I've seen him escape pressure in ways Mac can't even dream of doing. You haven't watched much of Fields with your "cool in the pocket" statement. That's literally one of the things he's best at and even criticized for LOL. He always looks cool and collected in the pocket and his lack of "panic" sometimes has him hold the ball longer than you want, basically he ain't worried about blitz/pass rush which can be a good or bad thing.

Lance is inexperienced? Is his one season as the starter less than Macs one season as the starter or something? Or are you counting the years that Mac rode the pine behind Hurts and Tua?

Lance has thrown about half as many passes as Jones, iirc.

I gotta be honest guys........I have a serious problem with drafting a QB who looks like he never managed to find the weight room on campus. Jones looks like he followed the Alex Moran workout program at Blue Mountain State.

was kind of wondering what kind of workout ethic he had since he always looks somewhat soft. Haven't seen a picture of him without a shirt on until here.

Jones's dui arrest a couple years back along with not being mobile and soft I think are the reasons why I just don't like him and worried about the 49ers picking him.

I've been watching a bunch of clips trying to catch up on all the QBs. For Mac, I think his pro day was the least impressive. Mac's game film is pretty good though. He has some real nice accuracy and made some terrific throws. His film for me is a little tough to evaluate though too just because of the talent around him.

Stidying film

Uh huh.....those guys did that on top of hitting the weights.

If they studied film as much as Jones they'd be as good as he is at quickly processing post-snap. They aren't.

But just to be clear I'm not saying Jones is the best overall. Each has strengths and weaknesses relative to the others.

Wow. Matt Ryan was a 1-man show out there by comparison. Macs stats look beautiful no doubt, but don't overlook the Superteam he was on.

Human potato.

If a QB looks like that, it's pretty clear that he doesn't take the job seriously. He probably thinks he can be a pro in the NFL while treating it like a 9-5 (with a 2 hour lunch at the buffet).

Lazy, uncommitted, no desire to win, and no natural athletic ability to overcome it. Do not want.

Lance and Fields may not have as much between the ears, but at least they look like they give a damn.

Jones was exercising another muscle: his brain. He spent that weight room time watching film. He is a film junkie. Like Manning.

I think it's an embarrassing body for a guy that's going to be a professional athlete. That said, if I had to choose, I'd take a QB that lives in his playbook and in the film room than one that obsesses in the weight room.
We won't be drafting this guy at 3.

We didn't have to move up this early this far out from the draft for this guy. We could have waited til draft day and moved to get him after Wilson and fields are taken and then we could've made the move and it would have been cheaper to do so on draft day

there were multiple teams trying to get ahead of ATL and that's because they were gonna take one of Lance or Fields. This is why we had to give so much.

this trade ain't about Mac especially three weeks out from the draft

For sure lol. I saw two reporters mention he's very much a possibility. Blame them for keeping this bs going

this dude could end up being a straight baller . But nothing screams three first round picks about a 6"2 average looking QB with good QB play ... in a draft filled with 4 QBs with ridiculous potential
