Either Mac is there guy. Or it is smoke and Fields is there guy. Either way we now know it is not lance. If it is smoke then it is next level. All signs point that it will be my boy Mac.

if you can't work with that high level talent and groom them then you shouldn't be a HC.
I'm 100000% behind everything you been saying in here NY. I just can't even comprehend it

After all of that, heading into the draft, I'm sure they'll have a real good idea of who they are drafting but you don't make a decision this big, a move this big without covering all the possible bases and going OCD on due diligence, especially with all the issues Watson is dealing with right now.
Shouldn't they have done a deep dive before trading 2 future 1sts to move up? If they haven't already done these things, I don't know what to say...

What pressure is there to rush the decision? They aren't getting paid by the hour. The draft is still 25 days away.
I'm sure they have one QB that is the favorite right now and who they would absolutely pick TODAY but with all this extra time and everything that is riding on this decision, why on Earth wouldn't you take all the time you have for that super ultimate discount double check?

You can say that they did do a dive and decided that they like more than one or two of them that will be available and now do the deep dive to choose one of them

Unless Fields is just their guy and they don't want to chance somebody leaping ahead of them and taking him at #2.
There is certainly a chance they are in love with Fields and decided to move to 3 because they were confident the JETs love Wilson.
Then again, maybe they play the smokescreen game because that's just what they have always done. There's nothing to gain by telegraphing the pick, so don't.
Secondly....there are a lot of other guys at Alabama they might want to catch a look at.

That would make sense. Good organizations thoroughly vet their options. I would certainly want them to do as much homework as possible before making a major decision like this.

The point another poster made about wanting to see Mac Jones in person to see what his athleticism is like makes total sense to me.
'Is this guy athletic enough?'.
That's something that going to a Pro Day in person will help answer.

Let's face it, people overemphasize athleticism to determine a QB's ceiling. Why? Because it's the easiest thing to evaluate.
He has an avg arm. it's not even close to the other 4 QBs. It's not even in the top 8-10 in this class.
He's already got the mental stuff you want, what can you build onto a QB that's limited on god given traits and already have the mental stuff? It's exactly what a low floor low ceiling QB prospect looks like.

Absolutely. People acting like they want them to go all Baalke and put some guy's name in an envelope and seal it until the draft. They must have a favorite but I'm guessing that they are compiling as much information as they possibly can on all the top QB's, going deep into their backgrounds, getting second and third opinions from others as well.
Before the Colts drafted Peyton Manning, they went and investigated every aspect of his life as well as that of Ryan Leaf to an absurd degree. They brought in consultants like Bill Walsh and others to produce scouting reports on all the top QB's, they covered every single base imaginable before they pulled the trigger on Manning.

Two words (for better or worse): Due diligence.

the biggest knock on Mac is his athleticism, and yeah he's nowhere near Fields or Lance, but he ran a 4.90 at his pro day, that isn't terrible for a QB. He's probably more mobile than Garoppolo is post-ACL... and Shanahan has never cared about having a QB who can run: Hoyer, Beathard, Jimmy, Mullens, Rosen. the only player he brought in who was a true run-threat was 34 year-old Josh Johnson for the practice squad. and then there was reported interest this year in non-mobile QBs: Flacco, Dalton, Trubisky... I just don't think the signs point to FIelds or Lance, you would have to be betting on Shanahan changing his entire philosophy. Mac Jones is clearly the better passer than those two at this point, the other two can improve, but Mac Jones is NFL-ready. And I don't understand the implications that Jones has a low-ceiling, why can't he improve as well? There's proof of non-mobile QBs succeeding in this league, one just won the SB last month
Lynch has been saying all year that they were trying to get a better back-up QB, if they draft Jones and keep Garoppolo, he wasn't lying, because I don't think Fields or Lance will be ready anytime next year and unfortunately JG could very easily get hurt in TC
I think it's going to be Mac Jones, and I'm just fine with that
and Mac Jones very well might end up being the best QB in the class. No one saw Mahomes (2nd QB taken in his draft) becoming the best QB in the league when he was drafted, otherwise they would've traded up to 3 or 2 or 1 or even 10. Josh Allen (3rd QB taken) was the least talked about his year and people called him a reach when he was drafted. Baker Mayfield wasn't the front-runner to go #1 until a few weeks before the draft. Daniel Jones was taken 6th, everyone was shocked, and then surprised when Haskins slipped to 15 - but who would you rather have right now? Also Herbert was the 3rd QB taken last year
