You know, I wouldn't hate it if Jones was tbe pick, but I would hate the fact that we gave up so much capital to get him when we could have moved up draft day to that 7-10 range and probably landed him for far less. I'm ready to roll with whoever the pick is, just hope and pray its the next guy to win us a Super Bowl (or 4).

The thought was that Carolina would be all over Mac Jones at #8 if they couldn't get Watson. If true and if Jones is who the 49ers want then they had to get in front of the Panthers no matter what.
Can the draft be tomorrow so I can start drinking heavy or not

that's what an OC does, not a HC. let's be real.

It's pretty normal for GMs to have the final say on personnel. Not all great coaches are great at player evaluation.

its pretty normal for the gm and hc to actually work together, seeing as how its the hc who installs specific systems.

How does that refute what I'm saying? Just because he's not in charge of personnel doesn't mean the GM wouldn't get his input on decisions. In an ideal setup, he tells the GM what he's looking for and then the GM finds the players that fit that profile.

You think theres a difference between Kyle's involvement in the backup safety vs the franchise QB?

Kyle and Lynch have done a good job of keeping things quiet so far thus year. This trade came out of nowhere. Why would they suddenly show their hand and let everyone know who they are picking. The visit to Alabama could be a bluff or maybe they're just checking other Bama players. I'm still ot sure they're done trading. I could see a trade back if they want Jones and are confident he will be there between 5-10. Pick up a couple of 2nd rounders or a 2nd and 3rd for moving back from someone that wants whoever is available at 3. I find it hard to believe they like Jones so much that they think they needed to give up 2 first rounders for him.

This could make sense as a John Lynch move if they want to recoup some of the loss of not being able to trade to #5 initially for Jones.

Yeah it could. But who'd want to do it? The Panthers fro #8 or the Lions from #7 (they still have Goff)? I can even see the Falcons wanting to take the Matt Ryan successor

Pay close attention to MM too who always give you the test answer too if you pay attention enough. He's also doubled down on Mac too.

Kawakami, Lombardi, Barrows, Silver, King...

That's a LOT of smoke for something that doesn't need a smokescreen.

Ahhh NO he actually didn't crack Aiyuk if you go look at his mocks to SF.

MM also said they weren't drafting a QB and Jimmy was the guy for well over a month. Him and Barrows been talking about if they will take OT/DL or CB over and over at 12.

no one knows what they're doing.

You have to listen to his podcasts. Like Maiocco. Even if they aren't direct hints from Kyle himself, they certainly are highly educated guesses based on info they have, inside info or tendencies.

Read this: https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/145798-simms-shocked-49ers-dont-select-mac-jones/

Wow, I can't say much after reading that. It seems almost a lock that its Mac.

Also Shanalynch are choosing to go to his pro day instead of Fields. Adam Peter's will be at Fields pro day. That just tells me kyle would rather see Mac Jones over Fields

Yup. That tells you a ton when Kyle rarely ever ventures out for anybody pro day.

For what its worth, Kyle's been to two super bowls with his Matt/cousins kind of QB. Some hall of fame coaches didn't even get to a super bowl till almost a decade has passed in their careers.

49ers will be fine with Mac as long as Kyle is the coach.

I think that in our current setup if Kyle wants a player, Kyle will get that player and nobody in the FO can tell him no or talk him out of it. There's nobody that's able to tell him that maybe we shouldn't give up 3 first round picks to move up for Mac Jones.

I saw that too and looked into it. I believe it's false. I think Wikipedia even has his 40 time around that 4.6 range. I thought the time was surprising. At his pro day, he was timing in the 4.8 range.

Ran a 4.69 just a few days ago....had a decent vertical for a unathletic guy too.

Might as well head to the bar now. It's a lock, IMO.

Simms is rarely wrong. And I think the Aiyuk thing happened mainly because evaluators were overlooking him, so he didnt talk it up.

Sure, he knows him well, but he isn't in his mind and the rest of our evaluator's minds. If he read his mind and knew what he was thinking, then why didn't he anticipate Kyle going after Aiyuk last year? Chris even said, after the draft last year, Kyle would have taken Aiyuk at 13.

He came out and said that he knew Kyle badly wanted Aiyuk and had compared him to Isaac Bruce so he kept him out of his rankings to not to tip off other teams.

So what your saying is Simms doesn't wanna tip Kyles hand on the QB he wants so he's saying Jones. Boy I feel better

I try to be honest and just voice my opinion. That doesn't mean Im saying my opinion is correct. It's just how I feel. Your opinion means no more than mine or anyone else's on the forum. I hope I am wrong and who ever they pick justifies what they paid to move up. I never said Shanahan should care what people think. That's why I mentioned it in my post. He will do what he feels is best for the team. That is probably one of the things I respect most about him.

This is true..he did come out and say that, but Chris has also said many times that he wants to be a GM someday and will only put out rankings that are true to how he feels and not to benefit his friends around the league. Either he did Kyle a solid last year in not mentioning Aiyuk or he full of sh*t.

Ah, I know Carolina is going QB, but I must have have missed their interest in Jones. If he's the guy, go get him. I will cheer for the dude no matter what the pick is. Love Wilson. Like Fields and Jones. Really would struggle with Lance.

Yeah and a bunch of players are running 4.2s this year.
