I know what I don't see is a corn dog with mustard

Sniff, sniff. Another sees it!

I'm sorry, IMO you don't give up three first round picks for a QB prospect without any discernible "special traits". I'm tired of this "Kyle likes statue, boring QBs, so Jones is the guy" BS. Kyle has to be tired of losing/trying to defend mobile QBs who look to throw when they scramble like Mahomes, Wilson and Murray twice a year. Opposed to Jimmy who looks for somewhere to turtle when the first read isn't there and he feels an ounce of pressure.
Just not Jones please.

Define "special traits." Both the physical and mental + intangible. Often times the special traits aren't the ones you see in a 40 time.

"Special traits" to me are things that jump out at you when you watch them, that you don't have to look for. And at least a couple combination of those traits if you're taking them in the first 15 picks let alone two future first round picks as well. Like Mahomes, he had mobility, ridiculous arm strength and arm talent (throws from crazy arm angles). But he was dubbed as being raw and a project, so he slid to pick 10.
Josh Allen had the ideal measurables, elite arm strength and elite mobility.
Deshaun Watson clearly had good arm strength, accuracy, mobility and strength and awareness in the pocket.
I just don't think you can invest three first round picks into a quarterback whose only stand out trait seems to be accuracy. While also throwing to the best wide receiving corps in the nation.
But a better question would be, what special traits do you think Jones has that the other quarterbacks in this class don't?
I mean if we're trading for a younger Kirk cousins or Matt Ryan I'll pass.

During these times when everyone and their mama has a breakdown video, I've been searching for non-popular content hoping for additional insight. This guy played college ball at USC and in his other videos I've watched he breaks down passing concepts and progressions so he knows that part of the game. Here's his Mac Jones breakdown:

I wanted to build off this video THL found. Great stuff.

Positives:
• Top intermediate route thrower. Tom Brady comp because of this. From 7-20 yards: PA over, digs routes, corner routes, etc. Most ideal with a run-first PA team.
• Great on timing and throwing of open routes
• Film; understands why the play is called and where to go
• Can layer the routes (great touch over the LB and in front of the DB)
• Elite touch passer (all levels) esp. on 3rd downs and does it consistently
• Leverage; another term for proper ball placement away from the defender that's advantageous for the receiver and helps with optimal RAC
• NFL throws despite top receiving talent
• Execution; dude just executes the concepts exactly as drawn up. Very little poor/over throws or mistakes or being fooled by the defense

Negatives:
• Long base. Over striding. This can lead to poor foot mechanics, timing, low velocity or inaccurate throws. It needs to be more compact. This is an area even he stated he needs to continue to work on (self-aware)
• Lack of mobility; not going to run zone reads or a large number of bootlegs (Kyle runs roughly 35 of these a year. You expect half that with Jones) and when they are called, it'll need to be a quick high-low concept with check-downs. No issues with PA though which we run 25% of the time (QB's back to the defense too)
• He's gotta remember where his check downs are. Don't take sacks
• Unknown; not much film on quick passes like slants, outs and hitches. Not the bubbles or spokes but the timing on the quick routes in reading CB's and LB's right away and getting the ball out accurately with precise timing. He did them but there wasn't much film on this. Part of that was because his downfield game was great and they didn't need to do this because if the running success on first down.
• Struggles with throwing on the run. Not fluid
• Only 17 starts; not a ton of reps

Overall:
• His offense was built to run on first downs and running passing concepts off that. He was asked to do a lot on 3rd downs and RZ as a result.
• He especially needs to go to a team with a great defense, running game and play makers but could win you Superbowls and be your FQB for 15 years
• Intangibles, very impressive, self-aware of areas to work on, who he is (genuine) and talent around him. Humble. Stayed at Alabama.
• Original pick 20-30 to stash for a couple years.

Now, think of these things in terms of Kyle and what he asks of his QB and you can see why Simms would be "shocked" if he didn't draft him at 3.

I'm just crossing my fingers he gets into any kind of trouble or sucks in his pro day so his draft stock plummets. Whatever is required to keep him away from the 49ers I'm fine with it.

And if he ends up a Pro Bowler, or the other two bust, you ought to log off again in shame.

It's way too early to call Jones a "worthless scrub." He hasn't even been drafted yet. He may not even be our pick.

LOL I'm sorry, guys.

NC, watch this one. This dude is the best QB evaluator on the Internet that I've found. He's a former NFL QB and current QB coach.

I see John Candy in the stands.
We're never going to get that starting franchise qb. I thought Jimmy was it but injuries, super bowl, and media brainwashing this shallow fanbase to hate him

A QB with a fat ass pig to the right as his reflection?
So here we are. Half of the webzone will clearly need to be put on suicide watch if we take him. Yet Maiocco, who most of the website including myself respect, appears to think that we could and should take him.

sigh. Life, huh?
